Not a 51% sign to be seen even though this is strictly a bar. It would not be as funny if it was a 51%. I just found it funny that there is a sign that tells you that licensed carry is fine, except that it is in a secure area of an airport!

Places that have a license for on premise consumption are required to post one of two signs, depending on the percentage of total revenue generated by said sale of alcoholic beverages. More than half, 51%, or RED sign. All carry by non LEO or employees is a felony. Less than half, or for off premise consumption, is the "unlicensed carry" or BLUE sign. That would be the one visible in the photo. TABC rules dictate that one or the other have to be posted in a licensed location. I am still chuckling about having to have a sign in my men's room 'bout the dangers of drinking while pregnant. This is determined by monthly sales reports to the office of the Comptroller. A place that is owned by a couple friends of mine is posted 51%. According to the new database revision of the TABC website, their sign should be BLUE. I was surprised by this, as the place seems like a bar. I have not brought it up, as looking up their joint seemed kinda creepy. Also like the idea of having the only legal piece in the place while having a post haircut sandwich. Not the best part of town. Great barber (has a .357 in shop) next to a great restaurant, however.

It is my understanding that the TABC can fine them if they have a license that says "SIGN=BLUE" and a 51% sign posted. You may want to consider letting your friends know.

Not quite. The application asks the questions TABC makes its determination from. When the license is issued, TABC will tell the owner which sign is required and even prints it on the license.

You might consider being a friend and mentioning it to them. You could tell them you learned about the new feature on the forum and used their place to see if it was true or not as an explanation of why you know. But their having the wrong sign posted is a violation of TABC rules and could cost them quite a bit of money. It is not likely to, even if someone else does complain, but it is a possibility.
