Had to Step in at the Gun Counter

Post by Carry-a-Kimber »

Went to Academy yesterday to get some running shorts and had to make the obligatory cruise by the gun counter and heard the following conversation:
Customer: "I need some .22 ammo."
Salesperson: "What kind?"
Customer: "Whatever's cheap."
Salesperson: "Is it a rifle?"
Customer: "No, a pistol."
Salesperson to other Salesperson: " As long as it doesn't say "LR" it can be used in a pistol right?"
Salesperson #2: "Yep."
Salesperson #1 sets a box of .22 mag on the counter. "These should work."
Customer, pulls .22LR bullet from pocket, "mine look like these"
Salesperson #2: "We can measure it to see which it is."

At this point I couldn't hold my tongue any longer and I told all parties that the bullet he produced from his pocket was a .22 LR and it wasn't only for rifles but any firearm chambered in that caliber. The "long rifle" was just the name of the cartridge. All three seemed shocked. I wish stores would make sure the people working the gun counter know what they are doing, it might save a life one day. :banghead:

Wow... That's downright scary.

YIKES! I would speak to the store manager, even after the fact, and "tactfully" explain the situation. This could have ended very badly.

Other than listening to obama, I've heard more misinformation at gun counters than anywhere else.

Good for you to speak up.

What's even scarier is the person buying the ammo and doesn't know what goes in his pistol - had to bring along a "sample". :headscratch

There is no such thing as "Fool Proof". There are too many of them and they are too inventive. :coolgleamA:

At least he was smart enough to do that. The same with comparing the 22 mag with the 22 LR. There is enough difference that they should have figured out the difference.

In this case it seems they were operating out of ignorance, not stupidity.
