You really don't think non-residents should be able to carry under MPA? I don't understand wanting to restrict a 2A right just because you're not a Texas resident.

if we really had second Amendment rights then we wouldnt need mpa or chl or anything else to do with guns.

That's true, if we had fully unrestricted 2A rights, but even the Supreme Court has held that there can be some restrictions on it. The courts are now trying to determine what that balance is.

You didn't really answer my question though. If you support 2A rights, why would you want to place more restrictions on non-residents than we already have as Texas residents? Do you think residents of other states are less trustworthy than us Texans?

Additionally I believe that restricting non-residents more than residents would run afoul of the "equal protection" clause.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Well, of course, you are right and I misspoke. What I meant was in terms of generally carrying a long gun, such as in a car.

I was thinking of specifics (as the OP laid it out) and gave too broad an answer.

Thanks for correcting me. It might have caused problems for the OP.

Now I am up to speed. You are correct MPA refers mainly to handguns and long guns in that context would not be regulated.

You mean like how Texas unilaterally recognizes CA & NY licenses without requiring reciprocity?
When in doubt

That doesn't make sense. How would you like it if another state treated Texans like that.

Just for the record (with States of birth):

Sam Houston - VA
Stephen Austin - VA
Davie Crockett - TN
Jim Bowie - KY
William Travis - SC

Presidents of the Republic of Texas (All of them)

David G. Burnet- NJ
Sam Houston - VA
Mirabeau B. Lamar - GA
Anson Jones - MA

Looks like it took a bunch of "outsiders" and a few" Yankees" to found this great state. :tiphat:
