I'm on Atkins for a few weeks. I need to drop 20 lbs, and I'm horribly addicted to carbohydrates.

I figure cold turkey is the way to go.

It worked for the caffeine kick, so it's gotta work on carbs, right?!

Wish me luck.

Good luck to all you guys and gals and your resolutions!

RKirby is exactly right. Once you make up your mind to quit smoking, and consciously make it your choice, you have won.

On June 24th it will be 10 years for me - I smoked a pipe for about 20-25 years. My brother, who smoked 3 packs of Camels a day for 35 years, said "If Andrew can do it, I can do it!" and quit in August of that year (1997). Neither of us has smoked since.

All the best to all of you - and strength and resolve to those quitting the poison weed.

Regards,
Andrew

Might I suggest a book called Enter the Zone by Barry Sears, PhD.

You will lose weight on Atkins, but it is not healthy weight. Your body needs carbs, just not in the gluttonous amount we Americans consume them.

Yeah, that's my problem. I eat so many carbs that I'm only doing this diet for a few weeks (4 max) to break this cycle that I'm in. The first day was maddening. I couldn't think about anything other than a big, heavy bag of Brach's Jelly Beans!!! I'll be back on a much healthier, whole food diet once I feel I'm in a better spot.

Does that make sense? I'm new at this whole 'diet' thing, so it may not.

While this job that I currently have gives me ample time and opportunity to traverse the internet, along with this particular forum; I want to try and land me a new job. One that will actually give me an increase in pay after period of time. (I haven't had any increase in pay in over six (6) years!)

If that means I have to spend less time here, so be it.

That's what I want for the new year.

Russ,
give some idea of what your skills, experience, education level, & wants are. There have been several that have gotten leads on jobs from folks on the board. We are glad to help as well as pray.

Thanks, it seems like that is the advice that everyone gives..Just put them down and walk away. Although I do have a friend that came up with a little "twist" on it, find something you want (Kimber 1911, for me) draw up a contract, figure out how many packs you have to give up to buy it and at the end of the contract. buy it...... I think even my wife would buy off on that....

Haha--

Yeah, I'm only about 15 lbs over what I need to be, but I can't seem to shake it. I just need to exercise more!!

I last weighed 150 when I was in 7th grade. I was a big kid, but for some reason stopped gaining lots of weight about 9th grade, and thus my dreams of NFL glory were dashed against the rocks...

Thanks for the well-wishes!
