MI: Three injured in accidental shooting at Gun & Knife Show

In Mount Clemens, Michigan (Detroit area) a customer at a gun and knife show fired an unloaded gun. The seller "inspected" the weapon and discharged another non-existent round.

The victims are expected to recover.

I was showing a guy a couple of guns yesterday so I did the whole routine of removing the mag, locking back the slide, visual inspection, physical inspection - everything we were taught to do to ensure the unlaoded gun didn't kill some one.

I then turned to the guy and said "see, it's empty". He replied, "I trust you". I replied "don't".

I then made him repeat the process. I hope he never learns to trust anyone when dealing with unloaded guns.

I use the same practice.

I won't allow anyone to accept a gun from me without either clearing it again themselves or having me demonstrate to them it is cleared both visually and by touch using their eyes and fingers, even if I'm still holding it. I think I'm pretty careful. I also know beyond the shadow of a doubt that i'm not infallible.

If they want to skip that step, I also remind them that they shouldn't accept anyone else's word for the loading status of any other gun either.

Make sure that you actually look and feel rather just going through the motions.
