.22lr Conversion kits

For a while now I have been looking for .22lr conversion kits for my full size 1911 and my AR-15. The problem is that I have been have a difficult time finding good end user reviews. Care helping me out?

I have Ciener kits for both 1911 and AR15.
The 1911 kit is very well made and accurate. They made Kimber's kits originally.
Mine is nice enough that I built a bare frame up to dedicate to the slide kit.

Have not used the Ciener AR15 kit, but it's certainly as well made. Mine is still NIB, for sale if you are looking.

Beware if you have a full size 1911 made by Para-Ordnace - the conversion kits won't fit. I think most other brands of 1911 you're good to go.

CMMG makes a pretty good one for about 175 for the ar15. They say the stainless steel one is better than the blued.

I think the 1911 conversion kits cost about the same or a little less than a dedicated 22LR 1911 pistol, like a Chiappa or Puma.
The AR 22lr conversions use the .223 barrel so there is probably some loss of accuracy, .22 vs .224. I might suggest to go the little extra and get a dedicated 22lr upper.
I have a 1911 conversion kit for my Kimber Pro Carry, and it also works on my Springfiels GI. I got it whenthey were about $100.

I have a Kimber conversion on a Rock Island frame.

It is deadly accurate and has never had any kind of feeding or ejection problem. It is the most fun to shoot pistol I own.



You should know that almost none of the 1911 conversions will lock open on the last shot. I've read that the steel slide stop would eat up the aluminum slide if they did.

I don't have a conversion for my AR yet. When I get one, it will probably be a complete upper. I think the AR twist rates are probably too fast for .22LR to be accurate.

For the cost of building a dedicated .22LR upper for an AR, you can almost buy the M&P 15-22 complete gun. Some pre-built uppers cost more than the M&P 15-22. Unless they're a nationally ranked competitor, it's not likely someone can shoot well enough to notice a difference.

They (at least the Kimber) don't come with a separate slide stop. You use your existing slide stop. It's because the slide is made of aluminum. I doubt you could get a .22LR to cycle a steel slide because of the increased weight.

my father has the advantage arms .22 conversion for his glock 26. it wont cycle anything but remington golden bullets and some cci. this might be somthing to think about when getting one.

I have the Kimber conversion kit.
It fits on all of my 1911's except my Dan Wesson Valor. The DW is too tight and the .22 slide will not go on.
Another thing to consider, I can not use it on my 1911's that have an extended mag-well. The .22 magazine will not lock in to place as it hits the mag-well.

Other than that, It works good and is a straight shooter!

I have a AA kit dedicated to one of my G26s. It does prefer the RGB ammo, but it will cycle all the ammo recommended by AA, and some others, just fine. The RGB is a bit dirty, but reliable. You need to at least run a snake through it every hundred rounds. I had some issues with CCI Mini-Mags due to the non-fuly supported chamber. The cases bulged at the non-supported point. I sent the picture below to CCI, and they advised me NOT to shoot Mini-Mags in the AA kit anymore.

However, as the OP has a 1911, I'd just make sure ANY kit has a fully supported chamber.

Marvel kit's worked well on my Commander.

It only likes to eat CCI Stingers, but I have no problem with that.
