Rifle sleeve - Part II

Post by Chris »

i have more understanding of why leather products are so expensive now. leather is not cheap. i had to buy 12 square feet to get what little bit i needed. i got the heavy suede, suede lace, and 3/4" latigo. i cut my pattern, then used a leather punch to make the holes. i looped the suede lace through the holes, but i also ran a piece of suede lace along the edge inside my sewn part to give my seam more strength. i used the latigo for the sling. it's held in by rivets, and i ran my lace through it also. i have exactly what i was looking for. a rifle case that will keep my 94 30-30 trapper from getting dinged up on the hike to, and into, the stand. when i'm settled, i can roll it up and stick it in my pocket. i'm not a leather craftsman, but sometimes you've got to take measures into your own hands when you can't find what you want. here's what i ended up with...

Making your own stuff isn't the only way to get exactly what you want but it tends to be faster, less expensive, and a lot more satisfying.
I've always figured the educational value of it as a bonus.

Enjoy!
