You can always leave the mag disconnect in there and purchase some Snap Caps that will enable you to dry fire without risk of damaging the disconnect.

Also, the SR40c is out. Here is one place that carries it:

Glad you like the SR9c, that is one of the guns I've been considering for a carry gun.
Thanks for the link and at a decent price too BUT I am sorry you told me about it. Now I may have to go out and buy it. Actually with the +P loads for the 9MM it makes that cal. a good
carry weapon. I may have to have it anyway but not for a while. Thanks again for the link and the snap caps idea.

Save your money and buy a Springfield EMP in .40. :thumbs2:
:iagree:
Check out the Ruger SR9 or SR40. they have thumb saftey. I love my SR9
EMP is awesome. The perfect anti-glock
you can get an XDM or M&P with thumb saftey's as well.

EDIT: Didn't realize this post was already a week old...oh well. What did you go with?
Actually its the XD-45 that has the thumb safety as an option, the other XD products (including the XDm) do not have a thumb safety.
Ah yes, my apologies.

Not sure I understand the vacuum salesman thing but if means that my comments were offensive it was not my intent and I offer my apologies. I was actually attempting humor (obviously unsuccessfully). :tiphat:

I think this belongs in the "trying something out" thread :rules:

Carry whatever you are comfortable with and can shoot the best.

I wholeheartedly agree!! I like both the Glock and the SR 9c two different systems but both are easily concealed and fired. The Glock with the chamber empty
and the SR 9c[or Beretta] with the chamber loaded and safety on.

It just shows the varying differences of opinion on the subject. Almost like the decision to getting a CHL or not. I feel safer after I got mine and some people will feel safer yet if they carry the gun ,
round chambered without any safeties at all. Who is right depends on the personal preferences. I was no more right in getting the CHL then a person that feels no need to have one.

BTW, many carry the Glock with the chamber empty. Here is a portion of an article I have read, the link to the entire article is: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m ... _63772593/

The portion of interest for me is:

Condition Three: Is It Child Proof?

In Condition Three the chamber is empty and a full magazine is in place in the magazine well. Condition Three is applicable in both the 1911 and Glock systems and is a common method of carry for military organizations around the world.

The Israelis have gone so far as to include drawing, crouching and reciprocating the slide as a technique of instruction. U.S. military units have long carried pistols in this half-loaded configuration while walking or serving on guard- and duty-stations. U.S. military sentries have even developed a technique of one-handed drawing by reciprocating the slide on the belt or holster to charge the weapon.

It has been suggested that Condition Three is a safe condition in which to store a handgun in a child-occupied home. This theory is based on the assumption that a youngster could not easily reciprocate the slide and thereby load the weapon.

To dispel that myth, I personally know of a young couple whose 3-year-old daughter gained access to their Government Model 1911, cycled the slide and discharged the firearm in the bedroom closet. Fortunately, no one was injured, although everyone involved was quite shaken by the incident.

For this reason, I recommend that Condition Three is appropriate for firearm storage only if the half-loaded guns function as secondary weapons and are stored in locked vaults or lock boxes.

Does this mean that everyone has to agree, NO!! Does it mean that many different ways can be equally right, Yes!! It just means do whatever feels comfortable to you.

If you have children in the house are you not obligated to have a safe, or a mechanism that locks and disables the firearm? I know when I go home for the holidays there might be little ones running around and if my weapon is not on my hip it is in a small safe, I take no chances with that one.

Also, if you are not comfortable carrying a glock with a round in the chamber then you might want to try something else. Just my opinion, but chances are unless you have really trained that method, and taken classes which aid in inoculating one to stress, chambering one in the round may not be the best idea, unless you have good distance from your target, and have some foresight into how the events might unfold. A weapon with a safety is fine, because it can still manipulated with one hand very quickly. Some people still claim there is nothing wrong with carrying a weapon without a round in the chamber but consider this. What if your assailant has control of your other arm? Even if you have practiced a 1 handed rack a thousand times, have you practiced it while your adrenalin is surging, which will affect your coordination greatly. Practice is one thing, but why introduce an unnecessary step that very well could cost you your life or someone else's?

I agree with the others, you should be comfortable, your weapon should be rock solid reliable, you should practice, and you should train, train, and train some more. But carrying a Glock without a round in the chamber? There is no way that anyone could convince me to the utility of this, if you don't want to carry a glock with a round in because you fear the weapon will discharge, then try something with a safety.

Not legally. I think people have a moral obligation to take appropriate safety measures for firearms, kitchen knives, household cleaners, bathtubs, electrical outlets, stairs, pets, cars, lawnmowers, plastic bags, etc. Locking everything up is one option, but not the only option.

...both Federal and State laws regarding handguns/firearms and their availability to children are worth looking up and printing off...they are both very specific...and different...

I was just curious, it seemed like one of those common sense laws.
