Gun Cleaning/Care question

I like to clean my guns after every range trip. I usually will shot at least 100 rds each time
I go to the range. I do not shoot lead bullets. I always will shoot FMJ.

How often would I need to use "bore cleaner" if at all? In my semi-autos I lightly oil the slide and wipe down the rest.

I usually run a patch with bore cleaner down the barrel and then a couple dry patches and then a patch with some oil.

What else should I do if anything?

Seems to me that the "bore cleaner" may not be need in my situation.

Bore cleaner removes both powder and metal fouling left after shooting. Powder fouling isn't too hard to remove metal fouling is. Jacketed bullets leave traces of copper on in your bore if allowed to build up enough it will cause the barrel to be inaccurate. Regular cleaning is advisable to prevent copper fouling removal of copper from you bore is a difficult and time consuming chore.

Clean my gun about every 500-600 rounds and I don't run anything down my barrel except bullets (plated bullets). This is an STI Eagle that I use for IDPA.

How finicky is your gun? I used to clean my Glocks after every trip to the range. Now, I only clean them once or twice a year. That could be anywhere from 3-10 range trips or 200-1000 rounds. I don't remember any misfeeds. Maybe with that dirty Wolf of Blazer stuff, but I stopped using that several years ago.

I do not consider any of my guns to be finicky. I have Glocks, Beretta and Rugers. I have never fired Wolf ammo but I did use a bunch of Monarchs and that stuff is dirty and have had
a bunch of jams, and other assorted problems but only with that ammo. I buy mostly Winchester FMJ for the range but have used MagTech, PMC, UMC all without ever having a
problem.

Just wanted to know what opinions have concerning gun cleaning. I have just grown accustomed to cleaning after each trip.

I went to the range today and fired at least 100 rounds through my Beretta and came home field stripped it and cleaned the barrel and wiped down and put
a little oil on the slide. I noticed that the gun was not really dirty at all to begin with.

Maybe I can hold off a bit on the field stripping. These are my carry guns so old habits are sometimes difficult to change.

Clean after each trip and would alone accept bores that shine like a mirror. No visible granular reside anywhere inside the pistol.

The gun is more likely to jam from putting it back together wrong than due to residue after just 100-200 rounds.

Just play the percentages.

What are people using instead of Breakfree CLP these days? I don't see it at Academy. The local Walmart has the aerosol spray can but I prefer the dropper bottle so I can put the CLP where I need it.

I recently started using a product alled "Milpro". Anybody use this lubricant/protectant ?

I prefer shooters choice fp10 in all of my firearms

I clean/inspect after every range visit - might be odd but I enjoy the quite time alone listening to some music and cleaning my gear

I clean any gun after it's fired... no matter if it is 1 round or 1000 rounds. I wouldn't put a gun away dirty. The only exception is a sighted in rifle for a hunt... and then it's still wiped down between hunts or between range and hunt.

Just play the percentages.

It works even better if you field strip it, clean it, lubricate it, and put it back together right - as close to 100% as you can get.

Anything less is unacceptable for life safety equipment.

If you do that every time you shoot, you get pretty good at it and improper reassembly isn't an issue.

If you do that so infrequently that improper reassembly is an issue, some refresher training would be a better idea than hoping for proper functioning from a dirty unlubed gun.

Hope isn't a plan.
