Unfortunately, this isn't the first time nor will it be the last. I'm actually more terrified of this happening than an actual BG coming in my house. Both are very unlikely and the police coming in is less likely than a criminal, but still.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

That's messed up. But that's the federal gov't under Obama for ya. "Do what you want to now, the next administration will fix it, just like all the problems now are the previous administration's fault." Just sloppy, laziness at work.

...a closed mind gathers no information...
...this could have ended much worse...there is no excuse for them or any LEO organization not doing their homework better than this...I still get mail addressed to two previous owners...ten and fifteen years they haven't lived here... 2 a.m. forced entry here would be tragic...

Same here, I've already had the police bang on my door at 2am a few times for noise complaints, all of which occurred while I was either asleep, reading, or brushing my teeth.C-dub wrote:Unfortunately, this isn't the first time nor will it be the last. Most BGs are cowards at heart and bad shots too. The SWAT, on the other hand, come in large numbers, heavily armed (and body armed), and well trained; not to mention the force of government behind them. That is really a no win situation, and I'd be shocked to find if the homeowner gets and sort of compensation. Kicking in doors with guns drawn over plants and other chemicals is insane and only serves to expand the state's power. In Houston there have been multiple accounts this year of burglars posing as police to commit home invasions, further complicating what goes through a man's head at 2am when he hears a pounding on his door and the shout of "POLICE".

I am actually much more scared of this happening than a BG trying to bust his way in. When the good guys start to act just like the bad ones how are we supposed to tell the difference? He still got mail there--big whoop--I still get mail from the original owners of the house and they moved out 2.5 years ago. There needs to be some accountability for major botched situations like this. It needs to have some teeth and sting a bit for the agency/police station that screws up.

Re: Sorry, wrong house!
I agree, this kicking in doors for plant matter is maddening. I know they want to preserve evidence, but I believe if no life is in jeopordy than they can knock and wait for someone to open up or at least give several minutes for the individuals to recognize that they are in fact the police. If they flush the drugs down the toilet, do it again the next day and the next. Once they loose multiple quantities of their produce they will probably move. Or we need to agree as a Nation that the sale and use of drugs is a Capitol Crime. If L.E. breaks in my door and I am harrassed as the individual referred to, but they tell me that they are seeking a kidnapped child or another person in danger, I am more willing to accept what occurred. But dying because they got the wrong house for the search for plant matter is irksome. Several home invasions here in Central Texas area are being done by individuals acting like L.E. I have not broken the law and if someone kicks in my door and wakens me from a dead sleep, I guess I will liable be dead, especially if it is L.E. How can we even plan for this? If I am given the chance to recognize them as L.E. prior to them kicking in the door, I will be more than willing to be compliant. But according to what I read or have read, you often are not given that chance. I know it doesn't happen that often, but especially with the internet you read about it all the time. Very troublesome.bnc wrote:Same here, I've already had the police bang on my door at 2am a few times for noise complaints, all of which occurred while I was either asleep, reading, or brushing my teeth.C-dub wrote:Unfortunately, this isn't the first time nor will it be the last. Shooting a cop on a bad warrant in defense of home is every law-abiding citizen's no-win nightmare scenario.

Thank you Andy, I went and did a little reading, wow, scary stuff! I have to agree, that's a tough spot for all parties involved.Jumping Frog wrote:Interesting, thanks for the suggestion.AndyC wrote:Google "Cory Maye" sometime.

WOW! You must have REALLY clean teeth if you brush so hard the neighbors complain of noise!
