Makes me so sick when one terrorist gets a lucky shot like this.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted already, if so, sorry for the double.

Very, very sad. We had a similar incident in 2003 when one of our chinook helicopters was shot down by a RPG in western Iraq...17 people died that day.

It REALLY makes me sicker after having just read Lone Survivor. The loss of skill like that just leaves me in shock.

...my heart aches...and my mind wonders if they were set up by one of our "allies"...or if it was a random shot...I'm so ready for our boys and girls to come home and let the Muslim factions fight it out amongst themselves...we've lost so many...and they've given so much...it's gone on too long...it's hard to imagine the hopeless darkness those people live in...and we're not going to change it much...in the long run...

It is time our boys and girls come home, enough parents have said good bye to their little ones. God Bless our troops and their families.

...I still thank God that my two came home healthy and whole...as they identify a local hero who doesn't come home that way...we can all, if we'll do a little diggin'...find a way to honor them or help the family...they must not be forgotten...they gave their lives so that we could live ours...no matter where they were or what we think of the war there...one of my son's friends knew three...a customer's boy who just got back knew three...these are not, nor will they ever be, statistics...

It is such a heart break. I some how doubt this was a "lucky shot." It is possible of course, but with the betrayal and the corruption over there I doubt it. I am left wondering why we are still there. If these guys want to live under an oppressive Islamic regime I don't see how we can stop them. I could of course be wrong and if there is a valid reason to still be there--ok--I am all for it, but I grow tired of seeing our young men come home maimed and murdered for the freedom of a people that hate them.

Still my biggest regret in life was not joining when I was healthy enough to do so, instead I was more selfish about not wanting to leave my friends and more interested in having fun. :banghead: I'm still barely inside the age limit to join, but far too bruised and beaten to withstand the training. I feel the same way uncle Ted did when he said that all the yound men and women who joined were better men than I.

God bless and give the good what they deserve, and the bad what they have coming. I wish I could be there to be part of giving it to em! :patriot:

I say lucky shot because I refuse to give them the credit for having actually trained enough to be considered good enough to make any decent shot. That would envolve giving them respect that I will just not give. Deep down I know there may be circumstances that we will never be aware of. Doesn't change how I feel about this though

I understand your sentiment and where it comes from, but I have to say that failing to respect your enemy is one of the biggest strategic mistakes you can make in life. You don't have to love an enemy, but failure to respect them will blow up in your face nearly every time. Failure to respect an enemy's capabilities leads to contemptuous disregard for those capabilities, which leads to more American combat deaths than might perhaps have been otherwise necessary.

It would appear that the Talibs or AQ or whomever fired that RPG and brought down that helicopter in Aghanistan merely took to heart the lesson taught by angry Somalis in Mogadishu......who successfully brought down or damaged several blackhawk helicopters in one day. It may be dirt simple and unsophisticated, but it works at killing Americans all too well. Failure to respect that will simply lead to more such deaths. I'm not a tactician, and I have no idea how we would go about ensuring that such a thing never happens again.......if that is even possible. But failing to respect the possibility of it and dismissing it as a "lucky shot" is a huge mistake.

You're right on that, and I suppose I'm showing some hypocrisy because I've said those same words before. At this point in time my anger and emotions are over taking my ability to think reasonably on this subject. I should just be glad I'm still here to have these emotions. :tiphat:
