El Paso / safe-friendly locations

Looking for info from someone who lives in or around El Paso:

Used to travel and stay in El Paso frequently, 30 years ago. I'm aware
things have changed ....... anyway, I need info on "safer" areas to stay
(motel/hotel), places to eat etc. AND most important.... areas to avoid.
I will be there for 3-4 days. Mostly busy in the UTEP area.
