Man, I JUST got done reading this article so I hopped onto the forum to see if anyone had posted about it. The article in foxnews has people being quoted as saying that kids being familiarized with guns is unsafe because they will want to use it. These idiots don't realize that making taboo is worse. Lets go through my childhood list of taboo and see the results:

Cigarettes- Was told not to, I did.
Chewing tobacco- Was told not to, I did.
Marijuana- Was told not to, I did.
Premarital Sex- Was told not to, I did.
Alcohol- Was told not to, I did.

Guns- Was told how to use them safely, how to use them, and how to take care of them. No harm done.

This aggravates me so much. Making guns "off limits" will only make them more desirable. Id rather these kids learn about them, and how to handle them safely. My favorite quote was "I dont want my kids touching them, guns kill people." Nevermind the fact that if a criminal had just left the gun alone, the gun wouldn't have killed people. You just cant fight ignorance........ rrrrrrrrrrRRR

I know I do.

Really though, I'm just shocked at this localized outbreak of common sense on the part of the CA government.

I listened to the interview as really gratified about what I heard. The chief said that his officers were really trying to build trust with the community and that he had not had any negative feedback from the community members about the gun education.

On an RV forum, I've had a thread going with several CA residents who say that the Liberal/anti-gun attitude that we hear about surrounding the urban centers is not representative of some of the smaller, more rural areas. My counter to their argument has been that those same rural police chiefs control CCW and there are only about 40K State wide so they cannot be to much in favor of citizens with guns. It sounds like this police chief is one of the exceptions. It would be interesting to find out how many licenses his department had granted.
