500 yard fun!

Post by HotLeadSolutions »

Took the tactical out today and decided to stretch its legs so to speak. Setup is a HOWA 1500 action .308, Knoxx Axiom Stock, Nikon 4-12X40 shooting 165 grain BTHP hand loads.
Weather conditions 96 degrees, wind full value left at 0-3 mph.
4" high at 500 yards, want to stretch it out further but the furthest that I can (safely) shoot is 500 yards.

I always forget how much I like shooting this rifle, until I pull the trigger. :fire

Target was mounted on a steel man sized silhouette. The round impacting the steel made for a very interesting effect in the paper target.

edited to add caliber

That is cool. How much experience do you have shooting at distance? Nice rifle too...

I'm assuming the rifle is chambered in .308?

I have a Howa 1500 Axiom setup in .270, and I love it. The best thing is when I let it play at the range I constantly get asked "What is that thing?" or get told "That is the coolest bolt action ever!" Mine is setup with a 25 yard zero and has taken game out to 340 yards. Now you have me wanting to go try some long range shooting...

Hey there TX0303. Can you see your sights with your hair covering your right eye like that?
