This is most unfortunate, if true:

In front of the shop owner the husband got out his own loaded gun. It fired, hitting [the victim].

My feeling is that this was a disastrous accident. If the husband wanted to whack his wife, he could have devised a better cover-up without witnesses. However, anything is possible.

This story is now worldwide news, BTW. Pretty much every unusual shooting in the U.S. becomes that.

The story did state that the word homicide was used as a technical term, not as an actual criminal charge...

Also, since I know a significant number of you folks absolutely LOVE your small DAO pistols, someone tell me: how stiff is the trigger pull on those little Kel-tec 9mm pistols? Are they "always cocked", ready for the trigger to release the "hammer", or is it like the DA first pull of a DA/SA like my old P-89? Which, BTW, does have a safety, too...but even if that was off, you kind of have to INTENTIONALLY pull the trigger to let off that first shot. Curiosity...

For the record, I love my family, God, and country. I'm fond of my pets, but love isn't in the equation.

As I said, most if not all Kel-Tecs are DAO. They have a long trigger pull, and the trigger force is enough that it is not easy to keep a steady aim without a fair amount of practice.

DAO means every shot has the same pull—not like the Beretta 92F or M9 and its many work-alikes.

I can't imagine firing a DAO Kel-Tec by accident.

I'm not ready to call this incident murder. Murder requires proof of intentional killing. Maybe it was brain flatulence. Maybe the pistol underwent a unique malfunction. Time will tell.

No need to hide names that would be me.... It’s funny because it’s untrue, or at least misleading. I understand your stated opinion and position behind the statement, and I agree.
It is misleading or untrue , because way to many "Professionals" a title they, their peers, there certificates awarded the title "professional" and yet are unqualified to own a weapon let alone use or carry it. Those “Professionals”, a title freely used to describe them by most, DO skip safety checks, do not act professionally, and yet still will be described my most as “Professional "...LEO, Military, Security guard, Private security working in non us countries.
For all of that I find the misleading statement “Amateurs skip safety-checks - pros don't.” Laughable

I do agree with your position though, once I understood it.

If someone skips safety-checks, they're not a pro ie. not handling the firearm professionally

And of course "homicide" doesn't necessarily mean "murder" - it simply means that someone caused the death of another, whether by accident or design - but we've almost become conditioned to think of it that way thanks to TV shows, etc.

And speaking of Kel-tecs - it had to have been one hefty pull of the trigger to make it fire, surely?

And of course the Anti's are all over twitter saying that the guy had a CCL. Turns out he was some local radio DJ.

I have a KT PF9 and it took some serious concentration and a lot of dry fire drills to be able to smoothly pull that trigger without being all over the map.

Unless this had some trigger work it had to be an intentional act to pull the trigger but it is yet to be determined if it was an intentional discharge of that weapon resulting in the death of this poor woman.

Wow, okay...first, I said a significant number love their DAO pistols, not all folks love their DAO pistols, my apologies on offending sensabilities...second, I think that AndyC's sig line is appropriate...to whatever profession you are talking about...for instance, I'm an aircraft mechanic...I worked on aircraft for the USAF for just over twenty years...and there were plenty of safety checks that needed to be done...and as professionals, we accomplished those checks...then you could watch people at airshows, or those who only came onto the flight-line occasionally; they didn't do safety checks. BTW, that quote was not cut properly...I cannot see that anything I actually said that made it into the quotes posted by bronco78...

And finally, thanks for the lesson on DAO pistol trigger pull...the only reference I have is firing a friend's LC9...and if they are all like THAT thing, then I cannot see a way that you could pull it all the way through by accident...maybe, as was said, it was a malfunction. But, someone on here will have to go and find that answer...unless it is found that the man MURDERED her (since it was reported he was a CHL), it will never get reported by the mainstream press...they generally only post firearms stories that make firearms and owners look bad.
