2011 TexasCHLforum Day at PSC - Postponed
We held a meeting last night to discuss the 2011 TexasCHLforum Day at PSC and the decision was reluctantly made to postpone the event until March 31st (5th Saturday). Key players are not going to be available in October and it is possible/likely that a major project will be underway at PSC at the end of October. This project would cause significant parking problems and parking is always an issue for the Forum Day.
For three years we used the same format for Forum Day. We offered shooting clinics and mini-clinics, open shooting on the Texas Stars and plate racks, and seminars on various subjects. The crew thinks it's time to change the format. Registrations last year were down and while the economy and gas prices certainly could be a factor, we also suspect that over the prior years, many people had already taken all of the clinics and mini-clinics offered.
For the next event, we plan to switch to a more open concept with some pistol bays set up with the Texas Stars, a Steel Challenge stage, moving targets, carbine shooting, etc., while others are open for coaching and skills training. Since people won't have to worry about a time schedule, we will offer more seminars on a broader range of subjects. Unlike prior years, people won't have to register for any specific activities. They will just register for the event, then participate in any of the activities they like throughout the day. Instructors/mentors will be available all day to help people and answer questions and to offer impromptu mini-clinics. We are going to offer special features and events for young shooters and we'll make a concerted effort to get more kids involved.
We are excited about the new format and we hope everyone likes it as well.

While I'm sad about the postponement, I'm very excited to hear about the new format. I hope we have a record turnout next year.
Thanks Mr. Cotton. I'm looking forward to it as I always do.

I'm off. Maybe I can actually make it.

For those of us who are new, or relatively new: What is PSC? I know it's a shooting club in Friendswood, but I never could find out on their web site what "PSC" stands for.

That's correct. Also, to the newer members, forum day is a great event to attend to sharpen your defensive shooting skills, learn about awareness, and my favorite, meet other forum members. You'll have the opportunity to shoot steel targets, both stationary and moving.Fire1141 wrote:Pearland shooting club, iirc
I've been the last two years and it is awesome. From the sound of it, this next one should top them all.
I strongly encourage everyone who can make it to attend.

One more thing..many thanks to Mr. Cotton, PSC, and the many fine folks who volunteer their time and energy to make this possible for the members here at TexasCHLforum.

A small wrench to throw into the works for Dallas area attendees, although the dates are not finalized yet, May 31 and Apr 1 will probably be the dates for the annual Glock match, the Lone Star Classic XVIII match held at the Dallas Pistol Club. There were 379 entries at last year's Clock match.

The new pistol bays will be going in on the current Range #2 ("Mom & Pop" range). We extended the current berm and it now goes to the berm dividing Range #1 from Range #2 and we will have 15' wide bays using the same wall construction we have between Bays D, E and F. We will also be putting in bays facing toward the Range #1/Range #2 berm, as well as a bay we'll call the "Tin Can Alley." The total number of new bays will be 14, if I recall the drawings correctly. Each bay will also have an awning made of landscaping cloth that will provide shade while allowing water and air to pass through.Teamless wrote:PSC Members want to know, what project?Charles L. We have to regrade the entire area to set the drainage before building the walls and finishing the bays.
This project is going to increase our pistol capacity dramatically and the bays are going to be very nice!
