School lockdown: Sometimes they work

Post by nitrogen »

A little story that came from my wife on Friday. After hearing this, I really REALLY wish she could legally carry.

My wife teaches special ED at a school in the DFW area. (not giving the district or school so she doesn't get in trouble.)

A student of hers told her she saw one of her other students with a gun, so she instituted the lockdown procedure. She managed to get the other students and teachers out of her special ed room and not arouse suspicion of the kid while the police got there. The kid had an airsoft gun that looked quite real.

Now, of course I wish my wife could be armed at school. I have nightmares about this, but I feel a little better knowing that the drills that are practiced in school can actually work.

I'm still scared to death; what could have happened to her?
She's a tough woman and can take care of herself, and worrying is bad for the soul, but sometimes I can't help it.

That is why we need to get rid of the restrictions on educational enviroments for cc. I think it is absolutely criminal that armed adults (licensed) cant protect themselves or the innocent youth.

Agreed.

I also don't understand why I'm not allowed to protect myself when I attend college courses.

Write your state reps. Thats the only way we are going to get the restrictions on CC removed. My letters have already been sent.

Please don't worry too much about her; she sounds like she's pretty "with it". She's made a decision to take charge of the situation regardless of her armed status. I do agree that it would be better if CHLers weren't restricted, but that is something we're just going to have to lobby for. No one is going to hand us our rights. We should all know that by now.

:iagree: Most of us agree that a CHLer should not be restricted in most of the places that we are.

Honestly, I don't worry about her like that. Had the kid had a real gun, and God forbid had she been shot, she could handle it. I know that I, however, would have been a mess.
