Activism ideas.

Post by tsteven1 »

Gunners;
I have already, gladly, learned much on this forum. I do what I can think of, and probably there are many more ideas.
I use Yahoo Search, instead of Google.
I no longer rent at Blockbuster.
I dress each outgoing letter with a small NRA sticker, on the front.
When able, I send a 2nd Amendment notecard instead of a page of paper.
I keep my revolver handy at home.
I've been reading posts here in Legislative, and writing cards in support of Texas Bills, Texas Open Carry, etc. Thanks for the info., Forum Leaders.
What do you guys/gals do? I will listen attentively. Thank You.

] Why, and what does that have to do with CHL or 2nd ammendment issues?

All letters, even those to say, your mother?

Under what circumstances?

GOOD!

I avoid Google because I saw them listed, I believe on the NRA website, as being anti-gun.
My Blockbuster here in El Paso has an informal "No Weapons" sign.

The small NRA sticker goes on each outgoing letter. Am I violating my Free Speech? Is my mortgage company offended?

I send NRA, TSRA cards at anytime I am sending a personal message.

Investigator, I am basically eliciting ideas. I'd love to hear yours. I believe that I should become more active in spending wisely. Thank you.

The gripe about Google is that they will not allow weapons (among many other things) to be advertised as sponsored links.

Honestly, if I were going to boycott every company that I disagreed with on policy, I'd have to quit my job.

I think one of the most important bits of activism is talking to non-shooters and encouraging them to shoot. I've turned two non-shooters into shooters. I wish I could claim more.

its your computer, but you are not effecting anything by doing that. Google is a much better engine than yahoo. Just because a company does not want gun ads does not make them "anti-gun" whatever that means.
kbuster here in El Paso has an informal "No Weapons" sign.
Why would THAT keep you out? If they post a 30.06 sign, talk to the management; however, the "informal" sign is for NON-Legal carriers of handguns.
An NRA sticker goes on each outgoing letter. Am I violating my Free Speech?
Free speech applies to the government, not your mortgage company and rules regarding its customers. However, I see no free speech issue with what you are doing.
Is my mortgage company offended?
dunno, ask them. ;)

I send NRA, TSRA cards at anytime I am sending a personal message.
OK, but I think that's a little obsessive, and I would see you as a little "over the top".

I agree with seamus. Try to educate people without seeming fanatical. also be involved politically by writing your representatives, lobbying for what you believe in, etc.

FWIW, I use TSRA return-address labels on letters that I send to real people.

When you pay bills, they're processed at high speed, and the person handling them almost certainly doesn't look at the envelope.

Some other ideas: If you have an office, you can leave gun magazines (the kind you read  ) lying around, and maybe some knick-knacks. When I had an office, I had a shelf full of different boxes of shot shells (empty). It was something of a conversation starter, and it was picturesque.

Is it not true that Google makes a $ commision on my contacting sites through them?

Did I mention being kept out of Blockbuster?

Free speech applies to the Government? I guess that means that I can promote political issues, huh? (Free speech applies to ME.)

And if, then, my mortgage company IS in fact offended, should I then not send them correspondence?

So then, my representation of ideas that I promote is 'over the top' for you? Personal feelings noted.

In fact, seamus has a great idea! I took my lawyer and my buddy, both self-proclaimed liberals, to the rod and gun club recently. And I'm going to invite them again because my AR-15 came in.

I've asked for ideas, Investigator. ummm, non contentious ideas please?

Thank you seamus. I am not trying to stir up the pot! I am grateful for this site. I figured that this post, my first authorship on Texas CHL, might bring me up to speed faster among people that have been around here longer.

If you click a sponsored link at the top of the page or on the right (where it says "Sponsored Links") Google gets a penny or three.

People who want to avoid them have every right to do so. I don't think they're going to notice or change their policy, though. The guys who run the company seem somewhat self-righteous.
In fact, seamus has a great idea! I took my lawyer and my buddy, both self-proclaimed liberals, to the rod and gun club recently.
That's great. I think most people, even if they think they are anti-RKBA, secretly want to shoot. I've only run into one guy who was fanatical about avoiding guns altogether. Ironically, he was in the military.

Nope, but I don't see how avoiding them helps your cause.

Actually free speech applies to the government restricting you, not private business. If you come into my business and say something I don't like, I can make you leave. You would have no free speech issue in such a case.

If your mortgage company told you they would not accept political inserts or attachements to correspondance, then you would have to stop, I guess. I DO NOT forsee that happening, as the process is way too automated and they don't even care. ;-)
So then, my representation of ideas that I promote is 'over the top' for you? Personal feelings noted.
No feelings are involved, its what I think. However, no offense was meant.
In fact, seamus has a great idea! I took my lawyer and my buddy, both self-proclaimed liberals, to the rod and gun club recently. And I'm going to invite them again because my AR-15 came in.
Great!! But you have gone and done it. You cannot mention a new gun and NOT post pics.
I've asked for ideas, Investigator. ummm, non contentious ideas please?
I certainly did not intend to insult you, but I thought you were asking for opinions on your doings and for other options. Sorry if I did.

Just beacuse I disagree with some of it does not make it contentious. ;-)

PS welcome to the boards.

I don't know about that. You are obligated to pay the mortgage, and the mortgage company is obligated to accept your legal tender payment.

I think you could have "Proud member of the NRA and TSRA" or "Christ is Lord" printed on your checks, and they could not reject them.

The NRA sponsors credit cards. The only reason I haven't gotten one is that I don't need or want another credit card. I have 17 years of history with my current one.

I don't have capacity to take an electronic picture, but it's an Olympic Arms 'Plinker Plus.' 16" barrel, A1 iron sights, .223/5.56. I've sighted it in at 50 yards, and it's pretty neat. I haven't fired an M-16 type since the late 70's. My right side suffered in an accident years ago. I tried shooting skeet with my son 2 years ago, and can't properly grasp a long gun unless it has a pistol grip.
I am furloughed, and have, since 2004 been doing my bit to promote the 2nd Amendment. I have chosen solitude, so I keep gun publications spread on the kitchen table. That's why I love this forum. And I appreciate the welcome and the input. Thank you.

Don't use GOOGLE, use .... SCROOGLE ---> http://scroogle.org/.

Google maintains logs forever, which is a pretty clear privacy violation. Every website you go to is recorded, permanently, and linked to you.

How'd you like to have a record of every book you ever opened in a bookstore? And every book you purchased or checked out from the library? Well, that's basically what Google will do for you.

"Mr. Smith, why are you reading about the AK47 so often???"

Humm, how is that a clear privacy violation? Google has a published TOS.

No, it is linked to an IP address, which may or may not able to be linked to me or any of the people who may use a specific computer with a specific IP address. And that is ONLY sites clicked on thru Google.

so what?

I just looked outside.... I don't see any Black Helicopters, and the sky remains up. whew.

I also stopped using Google when in order to set up in china they made it easier to track down any online dissenters that use the words like freedom, democracy or any other free thinking ideas. when confronted
about they said we are just following the laws of the country.
Yeah I did nothing wrong I was following orders.
