Question on revolvers

I'm not really into revolvers, however I am wanting to instruct CHL and need a revolver to practice with, as you must score 90% on both semi-auto and revolver.
I have had very little experience with a revolver, so I need something that I can aim easily for the 90%...
How hard are the snubbies to hit the 3-7-15 yards? Long barrel easier I assume? How long would be optimum?
CDNN has a Charter Arms snubbie in .38 Special for $269, and a couple of Taurus 3" barrels in .327 Magnun for $259.
Any thoughts?

Snubbies are pretty hard to shoot accurately even for experienced revolver shooters.

You would probably do OK at 3yds, maybe even fairly well at 7yds with practice. I think 15yds would be a stretch.

I own a 642-1 and carry it as BUG. I know the limitations of it and only carry it alone in places out here in the country where there is very limited chances of actually having to use it.

My recommendation to you would be to look at 4" (minimum) barrel revolvers for your intended purpose. A 6" would be even more accurate and controllable. If you do not think you will need the revolver for anything other than qualifying, I am sure there is someone here on this board that would be happy to loan you a suitable one for the qualification. No need to buy one if you are never going to use it in the real world.

Brand suggestions would be S&W or Colt. And .38 special would be sufficient for qualification.

I personally would not buy one and I would not buy anything from Gallery of Guns (always too expensive).

It would probably serve your qualifying purpose, but, I think you will always be thinking......."I wish I had bought a Smith/Colt". They hold their value.

You can get a nice used Smith for around 400-550 (depending on model) and it will hold that value if you decided to sell later.

Fortunatly the 24/7's I have are keepers...probably the best guns Taurus ever made. Knowing nothing about revolvers I will certainly gladly defer to your knowledge on those. I'll check out the Smith's and Colts. I am surprised at thinking Gallery of guns too expensive, they area wholesale warehouse and always ranked them up there with CDNN. The Rossi I mentioned was $300. Too, Gallery gives lifetime so that if you have probs, they actually give you a new gun.

Pretty well tit-for-tat on price when you consider transfer fees. It shows my dealer locally total for tax, free shipping and transfer a total of $330 with lifetime.
What model Colt and Smith would you suggest for my purpose? (ie, not a regular shooter..but practice and qualify every few years)

You can easily find used Smiths in stainless 4" models for 400-500 all day long.

Best deal for what you need is likely a used LEO trade in S&W K-frame .38 special with 4-inch barrel from JGSales.com in Arizona. Models 10, 19, 64 etc. Under $300 for a quality used gun. Many have bobbed hammer, which turns off some folks, but should not bother your purposes of learning to fire double action for qualification purposes.

If you have a revolver larger than a snubbie, with a 4" or longer barrel, you will have no trouble learning to shoot it well.

CDNN (up the road from me..thus no shipping) has 4" Taurus stainless revolver for $259 (new)...problem, pink grips (changeable). Shoots .327 and .32 S&W Long. Not familiar with .327...thoughts?
