Vigilante Cop Acts As Judge, Jury, Prosecuting Attorney, Bailiff, Stenographer, Executioner

OAKLAND, CA—Often referred to by his superiors at the Oakland Police Department as a "loose cannon," Lt. Buck Roth and his unorthodox policing methods have been the subject of controversy for much of his turbulent career. But the renegade detective who acts as judge, jury, prosecuting attorney, bailiff, court reporter, and executioner maintains that his approach gets results.

"Whatever it takes to clean up Oakland, I'll do it," Roth said Monday. "After all the laziness and corruption I've witnessed during my 13 years on the force, I've learned you can't trust just anyone to apprehend, arrest, fingerprint, photograph, delouse, interrogate, arraign, hear testimony from, and set bail for the low-life scumbags I deal with day after day."

Roth triggered a firestorm of controversy last Thursday when he ambushed and gunned down a suspected killer in a Bay Bridge–area warehouse, even though the suspect was not armed at the time. He further angered area law enforcement when he admitted to single-handedly securing the scene, taking fiber and DNA samples, notifying the killer's next-of-kin, and performing ballistics tests on his own weapon, all before calling for backup, which is the required procedure.

Roth, who is officially assigned to the OPD's Vehicle Theft division, said that he is not a one-man corrections officer, polygraph technician, sketch artist, parole officer, SWAT team marksman, death row chaplain, and evidence room supervisor because he wants to be, but because "the Alameda County criminal justice system has failed its citizens time and time again."

In some ways but not all, sounds like my kind of guy, cause I always liked
Wyat Errp. It's a wonder though he lasted 13 years. There are rules and
guide lines you must follow in all phases of life, especially in public
services. He might be a loose cannon ready to blow but it sounds like he
gets things done, just in the wrong way. I'd like to know more about the
ambush.

Mr. Roth is just mis-understood...

I bet he's a pretty ordinary guy...

I think if officers were allowed to distribute a little extra elbow grease now and then, crime would drop drastically. Bring back the baton twirling bobbies and get society back on track. Issue a few shoulder fire weapons to take out drug houses and save the SWAT team for a real call. Imagine how much money one rocket could save taxpayers by not having to have a SWAT team stand outside for hours with a barricaded suspect?

We need more people like the good Mr. Roth!!!!!

All before calling for backup? Either he's quite fast with his CSI techniques, or waiting for backup to arrive is a royal joke around there. Actually, it really sounds more like a reporter with an ax to grind (a relative of the ambushed "victim" perhaps?).

I'm not familure with the events... But as we are talking about Oakland... I'm gonna have to favor Lt. Roth. Oakland probably needs 10 or 100 more like him. ;-)

Anybody else see those Oakland videos on ARFCOM? OMG

I'm kidding...really.

Y'all, this is from The Onion, a SATIRE news site.
When you can read their stuff, it can be knee-slappin' funny.
But usually, as in the part of the article that I didn't post, it gets pretty vulgar.

The portion of the article that I didn't post was where he mentions that "when you are the confessor, executioner, last rites, and burial detail you know that its all worth it."

I would have liked to post the ARFCOM videos from Oakland, but I didn't think they could pass a 21 year old daughter rule. Some disturbing stuff on par with the Rodney King riots.

Jeez.
I used to live about 15 miles south of Oakland. That area really needs this type of law enforcement.

In Oakland, they have what they call "The Sideshow" which is basically vehicular anarchy. You have cars pulling up into busy intersections making donuts. You have people jumping out of their cars, pounding and jumping on cars that happen to drive by. Sometimes they'll pull people out of their cars and beat the tar out of them. It's really disgusting.

I have a video I found on youtube if you really want an example of what goes on, but it is NOT 10 year old daughter compliant. It's barely 31 year old man complaint. If you want to see it, PM me and i'll give you the URL.
