Been doing this since 1985, when I became an armeror for my first unit, there was a DA Form 2408-4 "Weapon Record Data"
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://army ... OKueM0Wo_g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
document we kept, size of an 5x8 card on all crew served weapons, and the new fangled Foreign side arm they were making us carry…. Called it an M9
I started keeping track of all round fired , MOD, or change made (space for that as well). Had a stack of cards. I’ve been using for 25 years now.... Pretty simple to use and keep track of.. The binder with my round data card is on the shelf next to my safe and a wall unit of range , shooting, ammunition and other firearms stuff. When I come back from the range, I take 30 sec to record what i shot, any malfunctions I had, sight corrections, ect. I keep track of number of rounds, ammo type , brand. On my long-range guns, I track ammo lot number as well.
If I change a spring, barrel, trigger, par ect, I record that on the "weapon Data" card.
WHY? Partly for tracking of malfunctions, ammo type, party to track maintenance parts replacement, partly for resale, though I’ve only sold two guns in 30 years and gave one away..
Mostly because as a young Specialist assigned duties as the company armorer in Germany, I did it for work, so I did it with my personal guns, and that task just kind of stuck along the ways.
