Sig 226 Extreme vs P229

Seriously considering one of these two guns... I can get a Sig 226 Extreme new with custom grips, SRT trigger and SAS for $799 out the door... the P229 is about the same. Anyone had experiences pro or con with either?

I love my P226, and a good friend of mine loves his P229. The P229 will be a bit easier to CC, since it's a bit smaller, but the longer grip of the P226 fits my hands better. Even so, I'm likely to get a P229 at some point so that I can have a somewhat smaller gun to CC that can still use the 20rnd backup magazines from my P226 (or carry both with the P229 being my BUG).

I love my P226, and a good friend of mine loves his P229. The P229 will be a bit easier to CC, since it's a bit smaller, but the longer grip of the P226 fits my hands better. I think so, yeah. Do keep in mind that there're two different versions of them floating around... The newer E^2 grips were specifically designed for people with smaller hands.

I held a few around town.. the regular 226 was just too thick to comfortably hold and reach the trigger. The E2 was just right! Sig said those were a limited run... ergo grip, nite sites, SRT trigger included... $789. Originally $1,200

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When Sig first came out with the new thinner grips, they were calling those guns P22X-E2s compared to the standard P22X. Now that the E2 grip has become the standard grip, the guns no longer carry the E2 designation. As far as I know there was never and E2 package. However, Sig is known to do a lot of "limited" runs for no reason what-so-ever, so who knows. Either way, $789 for the SRT and night sights is a good deal and from the reviews I've seen folks are really enjoying the new grips. Congrats on a good purchase and go shoot that thing.

Yes, there was an E2 package, in which "E2" (pronounced as "E squared") laser cut onto the slide. These all came with the E2 grips, night sights, SRT, short trigger in nitron finish. My wife has a P229 that seems to shoot just fine. Feels good in the hand although the trigger is a bit too short for both me and the wife in SA mode. Not fond of it in DA either but it gets the job done. My wife will just thumb the hammer back to avoid the DA trigger if it is de-cocked.

Picked it up an an intro handgun for her and the girls as my 1911 was a bit too intimidating for them. Added a .22 slide to the 9mm which made it a range winner for the kids. It can be a little finicky on the .22 it likes and wants to be kept very clean in order to cycle properly. With the 9mm slide, it runs like a Deere no matter the ammo.

Yes, I have the .22 Sig Mosquito and like you, it is very picky on ammo... does seem to digest the CCI Mini Mags dependably. If she has probs reaching the trigger, Sig told me that you can send it to them and they can put the E2 grips on it.
