Can you???

Post by speedsix »

...reach your primary with either hand and draw it??? How about your BUG??? if your primary arm was injured or being held by an opponent...would you be able to get to a gun??? Might want to think about that beforehand...and make it possible...

Yep. It's sitting right here on the desk in front of me. I would have it in its IWB holster, but the pj pants I'm wearing don't have belt loops, so no belt, and the elastic isn't all that strong anymore, so the holster can't be IWB. No BUG, yet. I'm working on it, but bills take precedence.

Edit: Typo

If my primary gun hand were injured before getting my gun out I highly doubt I could get it out with my weak hand and I do not carry a BUG for that weak hand.

In real life how many carry a bug? I do all I can with the one. Carrying is a dress code and a way of life. I do not want to be carrying 6 lbs of armanent everyday of my life plus extra magazines for zombie situations. In real life you will most likely carry everyday of the rest of your life and hopefully never need it. I do have two models of the same EDC so one is available while one is being cleaned.

I do not carry a BUG but I can reach my EDC with my weak hand. Flexibility exercises are really paying off!

Instead of Elastic, I only buy the kind with a DRAWstring.

My primary is carried either on left hip, or in left pocket (depending on which gun I'm carrying). Either way, I have a somewhat "prosperous" mid-section requiring a long "reach around"......and a bad back. If I had to draw with my right hand, it would be almost impossible. However, I do occasionally practice shooting with my right hand. Not so much of a hotshot if I had to do it fast, but relatively slow, aimed fire is doable.

...I'm extremely left-handed too, though right-eye dominant...I'm really counting on being able to use my left hand...but I can draw with either...shooting with my right hand doesn't give me much confidence...broke a coupla bones in that wrist a few years ago...and now it doesn't wanna do right...

Well that certainly PAINTS a picture of you...

Drawstrings are kinda the opposite of a gun belt though. I tried wearing my IWB holster once (with the gun in it) with the drawstring tight enough to hold it up. "Painful" would be too strong of a word, but not by much.

I don't wear pj's. I'm counting on shock and awe to get inside his OODA loop and make my first shot count.

I actually tried practicing that once. That and switching the safety off (1911) with only my left hand. Not the easiest of tasks. There are only so many contingencies I plan for and that's not one of them.
