327 Mag revolver any opinions on this cal.

For some reason as of late I seem to be leaning towards little 2" revolvers and have aquired a few. I have been looking at a Taurus .327 mag, but there doesn't seem to be much information out there. I like the power potential and energy it offers. I like the size as it is much like my M85s and 605. The empty weight of 17 oz sound good, not as light as my M85 magnesium, but not much heavier. One of the big draw backs looks to be ammunition price and availability.
So how about some imput and help me choose as to being a Deal or No Deal at a $249 price plus my FFL fee.

Like the 45 GAP I think the 327 Mag is a solution looking for a problem. Recoil with 115 gr bullets is harsher than 125 gr .38 +P and no more power than a 115 gr 9mm +P. Sorry it just doesn't ring my bell.

Some folks don't like this site's search feature and favor using Google instead. I don't really see that much difference other than not being able to search for something less than 3 characters. Otherwise, I think it works pretty good.

doesn't the Ruger SP101 come in 327?

I've owned several of the Ruger SP101's in 327 magnum. Very nifty little cartridge IF you handload. If not, stick with the 38/357 pistols.

In my experience with full power loads the 327 differs little from 38/357 mag loads in the same weight/velocity range as far as recoil and muzzle flash are concerned. I've read lots of reports about there being less recoil, but it wasn't enough to discern when shooting comparable pistols side by side with ballistically similar loads. You do get one or more rounds than a comparable pistol in 38/357, but the added expense and lack of ammo choices available off the shelf led me to sell all my 327's at this time. I like the round, it is certainly accurate and much more powerful than the previous 32 mag's produced, but until brass becomes more easily available I've decided the 327 wasn't offering enough to justify the extra expense of using it. Just my 2 cents.

I have a couple of friends who have had the .327 for a couple of years now. They really like the round -- a lot -- but they are also reloaders.

I was curious about it when it was first introduced, but that curiosity has faded . . .

I like the potential of the round, but... I prefer not to be one of the early adopters for any new cartridge that I might use for self-defense.

Are you worried the bullets won't come out the pointy end of the gun?

Some might worry about getting stuck with a gun for which no factory ammo or brass is available, should the round not catch on. At least the .327 can use some other ammunition (.32 HR Magnum and .32 S&W Long).
