First Report: Ruger LC9 Pocket Rocket

Surprised me today.

Shot the new LC9 for the first time.

cliffs:

VERY accurate for a mouse gun

Trigger is no problem...long, yes...but not a problem at all

Cycled FMJ and HP's without a hitch

Accidentally released the mag twice...NOT GOOD

Verdict:
Undetermined yet
Might add a CT laser and keep it unless I can't solve the mag release problem

I have carried a LC9 for almost four months, with 650 rounds down the pipe, and have yet to have this* issue. I personally like the gun a lot, so don't give up on it yet!

*Edit: Yet to have any issues at all, actually.

I have a SmartCarry and Tommy Theis horsehide/kydex (think Crossbreed, but more economical) that I alternate depending upon my attire.

While it's a great "mouse gun," as a shorter guy with a small frame, it's just a little too big for me to pocket carry in most of my pants.

Kholster makes a little moon size holster for the LC9. I ordered one recently for mine and it works very well. Glad to hear you like your LC9. It fits my hand like it was born there and there have been no issues. I don't mind the long trigger pull at all.

I just got a Kusiak leather holster for my LCP, I really like it, you might look at it for the LC9, seems really well made. it's pretty comfortable, I like where it rides.

Not trying to start a Forum argument, but some have suggested their fingers are no where near the mag release when they hold the LC9.

I shoot a 1911, so below are pictures of my "muscle memory" hold.

During recoil and/or rapid fire it sure looks like one's fingers could very well contact the mag release.





It doesn't seem possible to make small hold adjustments in a gunfight.

And, if I have to change my pre-learned grip to shoot the LC9, well, that ain't gonna work for me.

What am I missing here?

Same here. I hear a lot of people on other forums complaining about it but maybe it's my grip that keeps it from happening. Even if my hand is over the release (which I'm not even sure about), just touching it won't release it for me. Mine takes a little pressure to release. Although, that hasn't stopped me from my plan to take out the mag safety. Even though I haven't had it happen, I still want my chambered round to fire when I need it in case the mag does release.

I don't EDC my 1911 but I shoot it as least as much as the LC9 (and have owned it for much longer) so maybe there's something to your argument.

When holding the gun, my middle finger (wrapped around the grip) doesn't even touch the mag release. It's a hair lower. I don't have the largest hands, so YMMV. I also find that it takes a little pressure to release.

Since this is an EDC weapon and not just a toy for the range, I totally agree. Minimizing anything that could potentially cause a failure to go boom is a good idea in my book. Besides, I'm not overly concerned about having the BG remove the gun from my hands in a struggle; since it's concealed, I intend to draw and immediately fire -- reducing that likelihood.
