Emily Miller gets her gun

Opening paragraph:
I want a gun. I don't feel safe living in Washington, D.C. and want to protect myself. I'm starting today by going down to City Hall to find the gun permit office to tell them, "I want a gun." This series will follow me as I navigate the city bureaucracy and outdated rules in order to legally buy a firearm.
"Emily gets her gun" is a new series following senior editor Emily Miller as she legally tries to get her hands on a gun in the nation's capital. You can also follow her live tweets from inside the city bureaucracy at @EmilyMiller.
Thank God I am in Texas!

Yes this should be an interesting journey for her to get a gun.

She has already shown bad judgment, though, in 2 situations:
1. She left the door unlocked while in DC - really? Does she think it's Mayberry?
2. She was within sight of 15 scruffy men and decided to take their picture with her Blackberry? Really?

At least she's indexing her trigger finger in the photo - that's a start.

Good luck to her. May I recommend a move to an adjoining county like say in VA. Much easier to get a weapon there.

The scenario sounds fictitious, I doubt the true motive behind this, and will be skeptical about her blog. Of course I am always suspicious of people that broadcast the things I deem as personal.

Still, it should be interesting to see her description of the progress through this and the comments she receives.

I totally agree. No matter whether or not you buy into "fringe theories" like Operation Mockingbird, this IS after all the Washington Times. I doubt the WT would knowingly let a senior editor promote the RKBA. Seems incredulous.

Perhaps part of her assignment is to shoot her eye out, so that she may serve as an example to others?

Please note that the web site hosting Emily's article is "The Washington TIMES", not "The Washington POST".

This girl is "acting" totally ignorant about guns to dramatize her blog. Really now, who walks into a police station and says "I'm here to get a gun"? :banghead: She seems to enjoy blunt statements like that according to her two posts (ie "A GUN. I want a gun." I said emphatically." from the first blog) The first impression she would give most people is that she would be a danger to herself and others if she had a gun with her current level of knowledge. She seems like an intellegent person that I'm sure would approach this in a totally different manner if it were not posted for all to read. Heck it probably would be boring and nobody would read it! Wait a minute? :headscratch

The more I think about it the more I see this as a very good approach. She is giving knowledge to all those contemplating the same course of action. She will point out the pitfalls, frustrations, and all her errors along the way. She will provide tips to help streamline what looks like a very obstructive path to gun ownership. I hope at the conclusion of this blog she will have summary of do's and don'ts so that others in the DC area can confidently plow their way through the requirements imposed in that area to protect themselves, enjoy the sheer fun of target shooting, and basically exercise their second ammendment rights. I think I will be looking at this blog with a new frame of mind now!
Go Emily! :thumbs2:

Anyone who doubted that Emily was legit should now be satisfied that their fears were unfounded.

Take a look at her interview with Cam Edwards from NRA News. And people wonder why I never want to leave Texas...

Just one question: If Emily decided on New Years Day 2010 she needed a gun, why wait until October 2011 to act?

It was New Year's Day 2010, and I'd been staying in the house to dog sit for friends who were on vacation.............
