Suggestions for fixin' my G34 ?

After all the years of it running whatever it was fed, rain and shine--my G34 has started acting up.

It will fail to feed a round-- I find the round half way in at the feed ramp, at an angle.
It doesn't lock back after the last round.

It seems to happen once it get hot-- after 10-15 rounds.

I replaced all the springs: factory recoil spring, too.
I tried different magazines, including two brand spanking new ones.
I tried three different brands of ammo (all 115g brass)
I even cleaned it !
I've been shooting it for 6 or so years so I'm not riding the slide with an appendage or limp wristing it

You fellas have a suggestion on what else to try ? Don't want none of that 1911 talk, either.....

1: Pretend that it works just fine and refuse to accept that a Glock can fail (j/k).
2: Buy a Sig (j/k).
3: Get an smith or armorer to take a look at it.
4: start replacing parts until you find the one that's causing trouble (Costly to do).

Just thinking about how a Glock is put together and what could cause this I would suggest looking at the feed ramp and magazine catch/release, with the magazine catch/release being my #1 suspect (I suspect excessive wear). Also, are you running a light on the gun, if so remove it and try the gun without it.

Try a wolff extra power mag spring? Seems that all of these issues point to the mag not working in time with the gun. Bullet doesn't have enough time to be pressed against feed lips + follower doesn't have enough time to engage slide lock before slide moves forward.

1) Replace the recoil spring assembly (DOH! Nevermind -- helps if I read the whole post, eh? )
2) Polish up the feed ramp

One other strange suggestion: Go shoot at your nearest GSSF match. There's always a Glock factory armorer there that will refurb your pistol...free! (ok, you have to be signed up for the match)

I thought about weak mag springs in the older mags so I dug out two brand new glock mags, never fired. Same problem(s). I guess the wear on other parts could require a stronger spring in the mag.

Here's another possible cause--Where the recoil spring guide rod sits against the barrell, the second "level" has a curve so the end of the rod sits in it. I noticed that when it FTFeed, I look and the end of the rod isnt in that curved spot any longer, but is sitting on the top "level" on the barrell. Should it stay put ? I would assume so.

Good idea about going to the next GSSF shoot-- but its after thanksgiving in the Houston area :-(

I had a similar problem a few times in my 23, I pulled apart all my factory mags and bought a new one too. The springs in all of them were different lengths, weak factory mag springs are pretty common on the glock from what I read on the web. Pull them apart and set the springs on a table and measure them too. I belive there's a length standard you can look up and see if they're in spec. Mine just looked weak and distorted so I chunked them and got new ones.

I seriously doubt Glock would make a habit of shipping new mags with bad springs, that could seriously hurt their reputation (Even with the fan boys). I would personally remove the magazine catch/release and inspect it looking for damage, especially before polishing a feed ramp. 99% of the time a feed ramp in any gun does not need to be polished, and when they do there is almost always a visual indicator (Think blemish) on it. The reason I suspect the mag catch/release is because when damaged they will allow the magazine to sit lower than normal, and this will cause issues.

In my experience Semi-auto feed failures occur because of the following reasons in this order:
1: Operator error (Certain this is not the case here).
2: Magazine issues (Springs, Feed Lips, Cheap aftermarket units).
3: Ammunition issues (Assuming you have already checked for excessive setback or damage to the mouth of hollow points I doubt this is the issue).
4: Magazine related issues (Galled mag well, magazine release damage).
5: Damaged extractor (Bent/broken from use or jumping the extractor over a round in the chamber).
6: Barrel/Feed Ramp issues (Visible damage, poor relationship/position --Not an issue with a Glock--, cracked/or bent where the feed ramp meets the barrel).

Stopped by T's in Tx City. Roy said that it felt "stiffer" that he thought it should when racking the slide. It 's got a new OEM rod/spring ( with the same number stamped on the end as the original). We tried a G34 out of his case and mine certianly does feel harder to rack.

Chance of a wrong spring with right part # from the vendor ?

I''ll get a couple new ones from a different source and see what happens with them in place.

Dunno about that specifically, but I have come across things labeled wrong from the manufacturer (much to my boss's chagrin, since he and I were arguing about this very topic and he'd just said, "I dare you to show me one thing in this store that's labeled wrong by the manufacturer... just one!". I showed him two, and oddly enough he still wanted to fire me.)
