Low Cost Shotgun

Anyone know where in the east Houston / Baytown area, I can get a cheap, 12-gauge short-barreled shotgun for home defense?

I think I have seen Mossburgs at Academy with short barrel and long magazine. Gun show in Pasadena this weekend too. Might be cheaper.

Remington's got a $30 rebate going on for the next month or so. Academy's already knocked their Remington prices down; the rebate knocks it down even more.

Yep. About the least expensive NIB would probably be a Mossberg Maverick 88; should be able to find them at Academy for about $180. Harrington & Richardson makes one of their "Pardner" series in an 18.5" barrel, if I recall correctly, for about $10 or $20 more. And Savage Stevens makes one in about the same price range that comes with ghost-ring sights.

That means you can get an 870 Tactical 7+1 for around $290-$300 shipped and then a simple FFL fee. My FFL is $20.

I just ordered one since I didn't have an 870 yet. Thanks for the post or I wouldn't have done the searching.

...I've bought numerous Remington, Winchester, and Mossbergs in pawn shops for $150 or less...one almost brand new...one Winchester 120 pump for $125 30+ years old and like new...a barrel can be shortened with an electric miter saw and a carbide combination blade neatly...or a hacksaw not so neatly...Academy sells snap-over- the- barrel flourescent tube sights that work fine...make sure that a tape measure dropped down the barrel with the action closed reads at least 18"...I leave 1/2" more in case the one checking it may be myopic...
