Homeowners Insurance Coverage of Firearms

I checked with my insurance agent about the coverage provided for firearms under my homeowners policy. They advised that up to $2500 of coverage is provided but additional coverage was available for about $2 per $100 value of the guns. Also they would need the serial number, make and model of each gun that I wish to cover. To those who have purchased additional coverage for their guns does this sound about right? I understand that the NRA provides up to $2500 in coverage for firearms also. Does anyone know how thei NRA coverage coordinates with my homeowners policy?

The NRA insurance is less expensive and you only need serial #, etc. if the value of the individual firearm is $2500 or more. For individual firearms with less than a $2500 value each, you just fill out a form listing the total value of the firearms being insured and use their percentage to caluclate the fee. They use information from the police report to get vaule of the firearm in case of an incident. Its worth getting on their website and taking a look.

Looks like ArmsCare Plus is what we need. I looked all over their site and nowhere does it tell you what it costs. I've emailed them.

If I remember right, I printed the application form for the insurance and the cost was on it.

Ah, you are correct. insured value X .0174 + $15.
So $30K in value costs about $540 to insure.

State Farm home owners insurance offers a bump from $2500 to $5k for just a couple of bucks a year. After $5k, you would have to insure weapons 1 at a time under a seperate articles policy. I did have a seperate policy for a $3k 1911 I had until last month. It covered it for loss and breakage too.

But, if you don't exceed $5k, the statefarm way is easy
