Conceal Holster Optioins for RUGER LC9 or similar

Post by texaspirate »

Hey All, Thanks for everyones feedback on the pistol I got in a previous post. Ive searched the forums looking for answers and couldnt find the fit. so.....

For my carry I have chosen the Ruger LC9 (similar in size to many others). Here is where I could use some good advice. I want a holster for the small of my back. One that I can tuck a shirt in if I want but not if I dont. inside outside the wasteband option would be good . Next and Im really wanting this... I want the gun to sit at a 45% angle. Its exactly how I tuck it by itself... when I reach around with my right hand its properly positioned... it doesnt point straight down or stab me... its the sweetspot if you will.... I CANT FIND ONE.... ideas?

PS: I stayed under a month in the waiting room with my licence mailed! woo hoo

I do not recommend you carry in the small of your back. If you are involved in an altercation and fall, or are simply out walking and slip, a fall with a gun in the small of your back can give you a spinal cord injury.

It is not just my personal opinion, it is a pretty common recommendation.

That said, for an LC9 holster, get a Crossbreed Supertuck.

I just picked this one up for my PX4 SC and I really like it. its adjustable reasonably priced and I find it comfortable. You can get the 45 Degree cant for SOB. and it contains no Kydex.

I also do not recommend SOB carry, but have done it in the past, but cracked a vertebrae in my back from a fall (not wearing SOB at the time, but fell on a board) and I also recommend the Tuck This 2

I use the Tuck This 2 daily the last couple years for a Glock 26, Glock 19, or an XD45

I have a Comfort carry, several Kholsters and similar hybrids. I tried and gave away boxes and suitcases full of holsters like "Uncle Mikes" etc I owned back since the 1980s. ... I wear the Tuck This 2 daily for the last couple years.
You can loosen 2 screws, adjust the cant angle, and tighten the 2 screws. To me ...it feels cooler in the Summer with less sweating between me and leather of hydrids, and warmer in the winter with it's padded fabric feel instead of cold leather. It has a water/vapor barrier so I don't worry just getting out of a shower and getting dressed even if still "dewey humid damp" as I would with leather. Months ago I ordered spares, in case of a trucker's strike/nuclear war/Desantis bankruptcy or earthquake... because I found the one model I can live with comfortably the next 95 years, or till I die, whichever comes first. I don't recommend the Desantis "Sof Tuk" which is similar as it has no spare mag carrier. It's not that you necessarily need a spare mag, but the additional mag on a Tuck This 2 located there helps hold the correct cant angle and fills the void at the top of the slide and your pants/belt to round it out for more natural look and comfort.

Best worn with a sturdy stiff reinforced or double layer belt made for concealed carry.

If you "must" carry SOB, (which I don't do anymore) the Tuck This 2 is padded slightly more than a kydex type.
I use it at 3:00

If you don't get a Tuck This 2, then try a Crossbreed or Kholster or other type hybrid, but you'll need a separate spare mag carrier.

Take a look at the DM BUllard Dual Carry. It has a heavy cant, almost 45 degrees, fits well, and is extremely comfortable worn at 4-5 o'clock which is as close to mid back as most experienced people will recommend. Last i checked he even had them in stock so no waiting period.

I have a De Santis Soft-Tuck for each of my 3 carries (SW Bodyguard 360, SW Model 36 and Glock 26). Obviously I really like these holsters. The angle can be adjusted easily, you can tuck in your shirt or not, and they're affordable. I haven't found anything that I like better.

Congrats on the short CHL wait! SOB carry is a tricky one. Your have to sweep yourself during the draw stroke.
