Hydro Dipping?
Does anyone have any experience with hydro dipping? I am thinking about hydro dipping a couple of my handguns and a Savage 308 deer rifle, but I'm not sure how well the stuff holds up. The Savage i'm not worried about, it's the handguns. I am curious if all of the holstering/un-holstering will wear the print off quickly or not... Anyone have some knowledge they can pass on me?

Re: Hydro Dipping?
The only time I hydro-dipped, it was unintentional. I was walking on a steep slope around a lake and stepped on a slime/moss spot and slid downhill, everything I was wearing got hydro-dipped.
But,that's probably not what you are asking
You probably mean like

or

And I dunno anything about that process or duracoating either, but both are interesting.

Re: Hydro Dipping?
One of those things you wish you patented when you were a kid. At about eight years of age, decorating Easter eggs with my little brother, age three. He "spoiled" the bowl of red dye by using his crayon right above the bowl. The water was very hot, just short of boiling having just been mixed out of the teapot, and the wax melted and deposited on the egg as I dipped it. The pattern that resulted was not what I was aiming for and I blamed him for ruining my entire Easter (of course) and mixed a new batch of red dye without contaminants.
Of course someone probably had already thought of it, but it makes for a good daydream.
The "Hydro Dipping" process looks just like what happened then.

Re: Hydro Dipping?
Other than for esthetic reasons, why do you want to do this?

TAM, I only want to do this for aesthetic reasons. I'm not particulary wanting to do it for extra protective coating-otherwise I would duracoat.

Re: Hydro Dipping?
Either way, I've done some other research, and have decided that I dont really need to apply hydrographics to my toys. I think i'm going to send in my Glocks for duracoating and leave my Savage rifle black synthetic... Oh well.
