It was New Year's Day 2010, and I'd been staying in the house to dog sit for friends who were on vacation.............
Her boss may have finally agreed to her making a story of it on line. She's getting paid for it now.

Ms. Miller is still at it.

I would never live in DC, so to say that she has more perseverance than I is absolutely true as it takes more than I have simply by living there.

Look at number 17 on her to do list of requirement to simply BUY a gun.

" 17) Pick up the gun from Mr. Sykes and take it to the police department for a ballistics test"

A ballistics test?

Seems that DC is really pushing this "new" ability to buy guns to the Supremes again.

One of the replies said that buying should be the first step. I replied to that saying that buying should be the only step. She's not asking for CHL, she only wants to get this for in the home. What she or anyone else in DC must go through is ridiculous!!!

Still, it should be interesting to see her description of the progress through this and the comments she receives.
She is with the Washington Times not the Washington Post, so it is probably legit.

And yes she is very easy on the eyes.

Just an update. She's got about 12 articles in the series now.

She has taken her training and has interesting observations about what a hurdle it presents, especially to women.

There are also brief comments from Cain and Gingrich. She is interesting.

It's been a good, light read so far.. But chilling in its description of DC's 2nd Amendment violations. :mad5

In all my struggles so far with the red tape the District requires before I can get my hands on a legal gun, the safety class requirement was the most time-consuming, expensive and difficult to fulfill. I finally took a class and have the signed form. But the more I dig into this regulation, the more I wonder: How can it be constitutional for D.C. residents to be forced to go to another state to exercise their 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms?

In order to register a gun for self defense in the home, the city requires residents to take four hours of classroom instruction and one hour on the shooting range with one of the firearms instructors they have certified.

But, here’s the kicker: the instructors aren’t allowed to teach any part of it -- even the classroom -- within the city limits.

Therefore, residents must go to another state - at their own expense - in order to fulfill the requirements of D.C.'s gun laws.

Maybe she should next do a blog series on suing the DC government over the unconstitutionality of its Heller implementation... :evil2:

I'm surprised DC hasn't implemented a $10,000 annual fee to be a certified instructor to deter anyone from choosing to do so.

Ms. Miller has made some significant progress with her efforts and will be testifying before a city council hearing soon.

I just hope for her sake that she lives on a highly secure building, has a good alarm system and has the best gun safe she can afford. After all, every lowlife in DC will know exactly where they can get a two- tone Sig Sauer P229. The chances of a criminal breaking into a house and finding a gun, is probably less than 1/1,000. Breaking into her house/apartment when she is at work, is a 100% chance of getting a gun.

Don't get me wrong, I would never wish a self defense event on anyone. But if Hollywood drama intersected with real life, a perfect end to the series would be if her newly acquired firearm ended up saving her life.

This is a great series of articles. My hat is off to her and her management at the newspaper for continuing it.

The next idea would be to prove how easy it is to bypass all of this and buy illegal guns in D.C. In a post to a thread not to long ago, I quoted DC police officials acknowledging that guns are readily available in D.C. It would be good to see a couple of examples of that from real life experiences. Of course, she would have to involve the D.C. police or risk going to jail for trying it.

Just saw Ms. Miler on Fox News. They laid out her costs so far. $495 not including the gun! She testifies at the D.C. City Council meeting tomorrow.

And I believe all this is to just legally own a gun in her home, not take it anywhere open, concealed, unloaded. Right?
