Smith & Wesson Performance Center 1911?

So i want to buy a smith wesson performance center 1911. the gun shop will only special order it. If i dont like it or somthing is wrong I cant return it for full value.its like 2000 dollars. anyone got any ideas? seems dumb to buy somthing sight unseen.

I belive you can get PC work done on a factory SW1911 if you want.

well they had fit the slide to the frame and such and a bunch of other stuff. a loose gun cant really be tightened up easily.

I am not really sure that if you buy any firearm from a dealer/store and if you don't like it, you can take it back. Also I believe problems with the firearm are directed to the manufacturer. Some dealers will assist you with shipping if you need to send it back.

I did buy a new high quality handgun without seeing or touching it and there was a small problem. I called the company and they took care of it very quickly.

Looks to me that if you' understand what you're getting when you purchase one of the Performance Center tuned guns, you'd either think that it was worth that, or not. These aren't guns the average person might take out to the range every month or three.

If I special order you a gun, and you don't want it, you can be certain you're not walking away without a dent in your wallet. Gun dealers don't special order something for customers and then just shrug if you don't want it. You will certainly pay any restocking fees they charge, which will usually be taken out of your downpayment.

Then again, if you're special ordering a multi thousand dollar gun, why in the world would you ever think you wouldn't want it? Places like S&W, Ed Brown, and Nighthawk will bend over backwards to make sure you're a happy customer, especially for their high-end models.

I agree 100% Especially in this economy, not a lot of people have $2000 to spend on a pistol. If you changed your mind on it, it's a chunk of change the shop has to sit on until it's sold, which could be months. I don't blame the shop owner one bit for charging a restocking fee. If possible, ask around to see if anyone in your area has one you can test out. I'm sure a lot of us will obliged your request given you pay for their range fee and ammo. That in itself is a lot cheaper than $2000

When you're talking about a chunk of change like that, you better be sure it's what you want.

Here's another idea. Get a "lesser" model like a Springfield armory with the loaded package or other mid-range 1911. Shoot it for a year and see what you would change. Then take the 1,200 you saved and send it to a good smith and have them do just what you feel is needed.

You may find it works just fine as-is. If not, you'll be able to get what you want rather than whatever package the factory put together.

Oh, and if you go that route, stick to the major brands like Springfield or colt. I think a lot of the good smith's refuse to work on the less expensive guns like Ruger or Taurus. May be mistaken about that.

Same deal if you buy a motorcycle-you can look at it, you can sit on it. You can't start it or ride it until you own it. Its the way it is. Not being able to return any special order item is pretty standard. If Springfield made it for you by order and you change your mind on it or nit pick little details you did not account for its not fair to say "nah I don't want it anymore"

If there is anything wrong with it its not the gun shops fault anyway. That would be an issue to take up with the manufacturer/builder on any item not just special order items.

I just sold one of those, bought it from Gallery of Guns. They give a lifetime warranty so as long as you like it no chances are taken.

Isn't it the same with a custom suit or custom kitchen remodel?

If you think $2000 is a lot, never price a custom kitchen remodel, a custom Hardly, or custom software development.

well ive been wanting one for awhile but ive never handled one or anything. Since they dont have it in stock at the store its just hard for me to lay my money down and take the chance.its also kinda nice if you check it out and their is something visually wrong with it then you dont have to worry about sending it back yourself.

an example was i went to a gun show and they had a 2300 dollar les baer laying on the table. it already had rust developing on the hammer.obviously it had been sitting around and or stored improperly.
