I don't think it will do any good for you to do that. They are going to do it again anyway. If there are some things in your past you need to start searching for them.

Welcome to the forum and FYI, it is called a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) here in Texas.

I never saw the results from my background check, but there's nothing bad in it except a couple of speeding tickets a long time ago. The state does it and if you pass and everything else is okay you get your CHL. They find things that you didn't list it will be delayed or declined. I don't know what they tell someone in this situation. They may just say declined or they might give you something to go on to search for those things.

I should be able to give them what info.I know and let them do the check.like buying a new gun.I have nothing to hide.I just dont want to spend money and time for nothing.Rather spend it on ammo! Shouldnt have to pay the king for the RIGHT TO CARRY anyway! just my 2 cents. Thanks for the reply

You might be wasting your money and costing yourself a license. The check that the police (DPS) can get is a lot more thorough than the public records checks that you can buy. If you depended on it and then missed something that it missed, it could disqualify you when DPS finds it.

But, with that caveat so you know what you are doing, it is probably not a bad idea to run a background check on yourself. It might be interesting and useful to know what is publicly available to you. You might also find some error that could cost you a job or something one day.

Even if it was 20 years ago you must send in a certified docket or final disposition for any misdemeanor above traffic violations. If you have a conviction you must disclose. You probably need to call the court that you were convicted in an give them as much information as you can. They will mail you the certified docket for a fee. Around $20

If it was that long ago just make a note under date similar to "+20 year ago" Or " pre- 1990" and send in the app., but do list it. That's what I did and since it was so long ago it had no bearring on th app. but showed I wasn't hidding anything they would have found out anyway.

To make sure that my application matched the record, I simply got a background check on myself from the DPS.

It's the district or county clerk that you need to contact. Most of them will already have something online that you can check - and any misdemeanors or felonies will be public record - as long as you search for the right stuff, you'll find it.

I had a couple indescretions from about 20 years ago I had to go dig up. There were in Harris and Fort Bend county. Both had online searching capabilites and I was able to find the case number, etc... and then contact the county/district clerk to get certified copies mailed back to me. Here's the one for Harris County, for example: http://www.hcdistrictclerk.com/eDocs/Public/Search.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You'll want to notate the offenses on your online application and then make copies and send the originals.

You dont have any info on the case? If you give them enough info on the citation, case, etc they will mail you a certified docket. That's what DPS wants to see anyway. If you do it would save you from having to do the fingerprints. Good Luck!
