The old guard are leaving the Congress like the rats on a sinking ship? What damage will be done by them?

Less damage than if they stayed.

I listened to several commentaries on this yesterday. The common thread was that the minority party in the House has no power and the ship jumpers have recognized that things aren't going to change with the next election, even if they themselves are re-elected.

Paraphrasing, Frank said that he could be as effective on the outside as he would be on the inside. I can only hope that is true. He was far too effective at what he was trying to do for too long and the country now needs a respite from the chaos that he helped to create. Hopefully, it will get cleaned up before another loon without any understanding of basic economics gets into a similar position of power. No..wait.....

I saw his announcement on TV. I think he's realized that he won't win another election for a couple of reasons: 1) in his own district he had to fight a bruising battle to win reelection this last time around, something he has never had to do before and it was closer than he thought it would be; 2) he's pretty sure that it is going to be more work than it's worth to try to win the hearts and minds of people he doesn't know that well (he said as much in his resignation speech), and that he has doubts about his ability to do so. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, since this is a new district, he would not be able to run as the official incumbent—something which affords incumbents certain advantages.

Frank is an old-style machine politician. He has run a gay bordello out of his home in DC......well, in all fairness, it was his boyfriend who ran the bordello, but there is no way in hades that Frank didn't know it was happening, and he didn't put a stop to it. He had to get caught first. And then, while he was in a position of oversight over Fannie Mae, he had an ongoing affair Herb Moses, one of Fannie Mae's executives (SOURCE). Citing this article:

Frank has argued that family life “should be fair game for campaign discussion,” wrote the Associated Press on Sept. 2. The comment was in reference to GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter. “They’re the ones that made an issue of her family,” the Massachusetts Democrat said to the AP.

Therefore, Barnie Franks' improprieties—which border on the indictable, if not actually crossing that line—are also fair game.....only this isn't picking on somebody's kids. This is picking on a crapulent pus-sack of an eminently corrupt and corruptible politician, who has been caught in blatant lies many many times, and has had no hesitation insulting and smearing even the common voters if they don't agree with him and is party line.

He's a pimple, an abscess, and he needs to be squeezed and popped so that his district can heal from the embarrassment of ever having elected such a creep in the first place. The best antibiotic there is is sunlight and fresh air. It is time to let the sun shine bright on his life, so that the world may know him for the kind of criminal that he is. I can't even respect him as a principled enemy, because he has no principles.

Other than that, I have no particular opinion about the feckless wart.

You have got to be the most eloquent person in bashing those who deserve it. If only I could match your skill in substituting profanity with a broad vocabulary, I too could sound witty and educated.

Yeah, but you've been in the Navy, which means that you are probably more inventive with your cussing than I could ever be. Cussing, like all of the finer arts, is one that should be judiciously applied, so as to be relevant; satisfying to the cusser without leaving its recipient wanting any more of it; and leaving its recipient with a new found respect for the cusser's capabilities. On the other hand, you get double points if you can cuss in French because it sounds so much more elegant while being twice as nasty. I can cuss in French.
