Marlin 1895G in 45-70 government. It's basically a regular 1895 with a shorter barrel.

Both are nice, the 45-70 must kick a lot? It looks like a heck of a round.

Wasn't it originally designed to be a 1 shot buffalo stopper? It' would have to be one heck of a round to do that! :shock:

It was originally developed by the Army at the old Springfield Armory, for use with the Springfield Model 1873, also known as the "Trapdoor Springfield." (SOURCE)

So it might have been used to hunt buffalo, but it was originally designed as a chambering for an early battle rifle:

OKAY THEN! Took the Chrono to the range to get some numbers. Here's the rundown!

405gr JFP over 44gr Hodgdon 4198.... 1750fps..... 2753.49 ft-lbs
300gr Combined Technology over 55.5gr Hodgdon 4198.... 2300fps......4290.98 ft-lbs

So yea, I have a love affair (officially) with my guide gun, tho it's more masochist that should be deemed healthy :mrgreen:
