Springfield Champion reliability?

I have quite a few 1911s from various manufacturers (Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Les Baer, ParaOrdnance/Caspian) in my collection. Three of them are Springfields (.45ACP, .38 Super, 9X23) but all are 5" guns. It's my opinion that people get the most bang for the buck with Springfield's Loaded 1911s. A very good friend is going to get a Commander length gun and he's considering the Springfield Champion.

I only know one person who owns a Champion and he has had a few problems with it. Do any of you folks have experience with Champions?

My Sunday carry is a Champion. I have never had a single bobble w/ it. It has run through all day shoots, several hundred rds of reloads on occasion.
Mine is absolutely reliable.

I agree that Springfield offers the best bang for the buck. If there is even a hint of unreliability, call them and they will make it right. Their customer service is phenomenal and quite frankly, combined with their great firearms, why I continue to buy from them.

I don't really know anything about the Champion model, but I will heartily endorse your comment about the Loaded model. Mine is a Loaded, and it is an excellent 1911.

The Champion is actually a loaded model. They are a pretty nice looking 1911, I just sold one Friday. They are also hard to get right now.

My wife has a Champion loaded SS that she took to a couple of defensive courses using 250ish rds per day. She took it to break it in. It had never been fired prior to the courses. It ceased both days........she had wiped it dry.....didn't like the oil on it. We also have two Champ Operators with no failures.

Seriously, the frame/slide rail had rough machine marks.....when I broke it down to investigate, also the trigger had developed a double step before firing. I contacted Springfield, they immediately sent a fedex box, repaired the slide/frame to a mirror finished and trigger that breaks like a wine glass stem within three weeks. That was two years ago. It has run perfectly since. I have no complaints.

Because of this, she "allows" me to clean and lube all of her guns everytime she goes shooting .

I have a champion and had to polish the feed ramp as it wouldn't feed hollow points. After the polish job I have 7000 + rounds through it without a hiccup.

I never realized that, I thought they only had one Champion model.

Yeah, here is the Champion lineup from their catalog. And I have nothing but praise for both my Springfield 1911 and the company customer service. Both are par excellence!!

The "loadeds" have ambi-safties, night sights, trigger jobs, ramped bbl for hollow points, beaver tail. I have one of Champ GI's.....nothing loaded about it.
