My New 1980 Marlin 336

Been wanting a nice Marlin pre '82 336 in 30-30. Found one with nice wood and receiver, I hope... on Gunbroker and got the bid tonight. Hope to have it in hand by next weekend.

Nice looking Marlin. 1980 manufacture means serial number 20XXXXXXX and that's before crossbolt safety and Remington takeover. You may already know but if not, http://www.marlinowners.com/ is a great resource for information on these and other Marlin firearms.

great find. I love my old '73 pre-safety gold trigger 336. They were built right, all the way through.

thanks to all and yes I know the Marlin 336s. I had one in my college days, early 70s at A&M. Wish I had never sold it years ago. I do believe it was an RC so been looking for over a year for a really nice one again, pre '82 no safety model that had good wood. I used to reload for mine back then on an good old rock chucker. Wanted a nice 336ADL but hard to find with the good walnut wood and checkering. I saw a set of them on the marlinowners site but never got a connection to the person who was talking about them to try and buy one. But this one had what appears to be nice wood with some character instead of the straight walnut stained birch that was used. The receiver appears to be in good condition and the seller says no rust anywhere. There was about 12 pictures of it and it was all very clean. claims it came from an 84 year old gunsmiths collection. Marlin had a habit of mixing some parts on models that had changes from some years. That is why occassionally you see one that is not supposed to have the gold trigger or certain bands etc for a given serial number year. And yes I did verify the serial number started with a 20, (2000-20 equal a 1980). So assuming this one is completely original it is in good shape. New ones with pressed checkering just don't have the "LOOK" a good lever action should have. Thank for looking and looking forward to trying it out when it comes in. Now to get back an old Marlin 39A like I had back then......
