Defense Awareness & Shooting Classes

Post by DLBConductor »

Although I am a very physically active and alert 68-years-young retiree, I am a Newbie to handguns and CHL. All of my CHL paperwork went to Austin on December 15. I did get shooting instruction from a Professional Instructor and practiced daily for a month before I took my CHL class.

I have had two serious encounters with BGs in the last three months and have decided not to be a victim in the future. I am now looking for a good Defensive Awareness Class and a good Defensive Shooting Class in Central Texas (Fort Worth, Dallas, Waco, Austin regions). Any recommendations?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know his current schedule but I think very highly of Hany Mahmoud @ North Texas Tactical. In the Austin area I like Karl Rehn @ KR Training.

I think forum member A-R is an Austin-area CHL instructor, not sure if he does other self-defense courses. There is another forum member in the Dallas area who I think does this type of training, but the screen name escapes me; I'm someone else will remember.

Glad to hear you're taking precautions to protect yourself.

Good for you!! I am a similar biotype. I am pushing 70 and I have had a CHL and carrying everyday since June this year. Not too long I know but like you I want to protect myself and my family [including 4 grand kids
even though sometimes I wonder why :smilelol5: ]

I am looking for a good instructor in the San Antonio area. If anyone knows of one let me know please.

Go to the Warriortalk.com forums and look for JR Urbina (San Antonio), Jon Payne (DFW area I think), and John Chambers (has held courses at the range near Liberty Hill, west of Austin).

Just a few miles from me. After the holidays I may look them up.

http://www.krtraining.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - I agree - lots of geezers in class at times. Like me in my 60's. They offer a great set of classes from beginning to advanced. Very practical - no warrior, posturing bull.

Also, great guest instructors on special topics.

:iagree: Karl is good at shooting and teaching. He's also humble enough to host guest instructors for special topics.

Again, Thanks for all the good suggestions! Now all I have to do is to make sure my 68 year old body can survive the defensive training.
