How To Tell If Hammer Is Striking The Pin??? *PICS ADDED*
I wish I lived in the country so I wouldn't have to ask this question......but I digress.
I had some sights installed on a pistol of mine and it looks like the rear sight they put on might be interfering with the operation of the hammer in that it won't let it fully strike the firing pin.
I noticed it before I left the shop and they said it was fine, go figure, but I have concerns otherwise.
I want to carry it today as I work around the house but not if it won't work obviously.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!

p.s. I'll have a pic for y'all in a bit

snap caps would seem to be an easy way....they make a light "sproing" noise when the firing pin hits the back of the cap and depresses the spring. If you listen close you can hear it.

unload the handgun, check it again, then with the gun cocked (mag in place if it has the mag disconnect) point it to the ceiling and drop a #2 pencil with the eraser end to the breach and pull the trigger. Depending on the force of the strike, the pencil just may hit the ceiling. If it barely jiggles in the barrel, then you can bet the f.p./striker didn't make sufficient contact to pop a cap.

Thats a dang good idea mr surveyor!
I tried that and noting...then I held the pencil back there and still felt no energy transfer.
Upon further inspection I think I have pretty good proof that its not hitting anything but the rear sight.
Pics shortly.

Yeah...I didn't notice this until I took the pics.texasmusic wrote:Looks like it's hitting the sight to me.
I'm going to give them a call on Monday and see what they have to say about fixing it.

Other than grinding down the sight or the hammer, I don't think you can "fix it." I wouldn't recommend either. I would buy a different brand/model of sight.MedicMan218 wrote:Yeah...I didn't notice this until I took the pics.texasmusic wrote:Looks like it's hitting the sight to me.

Problem is there isn't any other company out there that make sights for this pistol....CZ 40-B.WildBill wrote:Other than grinding down the sight or the hammer, I don't think you can "fix it." XS or nothing.
A guy on another forum suggested that I do nothing but call them to get them to fix it. He said that once I start jacking with it that that could shift the "blame" from them...to me.

Re-examining the pictures, it looks like there is a gap between the slide and the rear sight. That is not good.

Well.....
I would like to say "take it back to the shop", however, considering they failed to properly install the sight in the first place, I wouldn't have much faith in their ability to "fix" it without doing something worse. Still, you paid them for a service, and they failed to perform to standard, so THEY should correct the issue.
The issue can easily be rectified by simply drifting the sight back out and removing the necessary amount of material from the sight. Who you choose to complete that task is up to you.

Agree on both points!! This 'repair' had every potential to turn out really bad!Texas Dan Mosby wrote:I would like to say "take it back to the shop", however, considering they failed to properly install the sight in the first place, I wouldn't have much faith in their ability to "fix" it without doing something worse. I don't think that they improperly installed the sight. Maybe they installed the wrong sight, but that was at the request of the OP.

When you go back to the shop, take your pencil with you and teach them something.
