I'm Moving CHL adress issues

Post by tommyg »

I'm curently in the DFW area. My wife's boss wants her to relocate in Austin

I'm looking for a job in Austin. We have a rent house in Austin, that we would like to settle in

if we make the move (not sure yet)it will mean staying in temporary housing for a

few months until the lease on the rent house expires.

I don't know what to do about the change of address on my CHL and drivers license during the

transision time. Do I give Dps temp addresses or wait until we settle into the rent house??

Then do another change of address when we settle in the rent house??

Do I keep my current address on DL & CHL until we can take back the rent house??

We are not sure if we are going to relocate at this time but it looks like we will be moving.

We have not found a temp. place to stay at this time

I don't want to risk being busted for Unlawful carry due to a technicality

I'm not sure but you may be able to use a P.O. Box as an address on your CHL. This question came up some time ago posted by someone who lived on the road in a motor home. They used an address at the park they called home base. DPS should be able to answer this for you why don't you e-mail them?

edit 1 - Doing the change of address at $25.00 a time beats a UCW charge.

edit 2 - It must be a physical address. Scratch the P.O. Box idea.

Sounds like you do not intend to establish residency at the temp address.

If you move your residence you have 30 days to notify DPS of your new address. I think that says if you're going to be in temporary housing less than 30 days, you can wait and give DPS the permanent address. Also, if you own the house in DFW, you could argue that's your permanent address, at least until it sells.

I assumed you own a house in DFW you're living in and a house in Austin you're renting out. If you're renting in DFW then I think you have to change your address within 30 days of the lease expiring to stay legal.

I own both the house in DFW and the house in Austin
Austin house will not be available for several months
because it is rented out under lease

My wife works for the State in Grand Prarie she is being sent to Austin
I work for UTArlington.

There is a good chance that I can transferr to a Job at UTAustin
I have it in the works now there are several openings I'm well qualified for
