[July 2010]
My MIL was staying with us for about 5 months this past winter. My wife was sure she would be upset if she knew I was into guns, carried around the house, took the kids to the range, etc. I had been taking every Friday off for a while because I had too burn some days at work - so I went shooting quite a few times. I would sneak out of the house with all my gear, stop at my FIL's house (they are long divorced) and clean the guns, then come back home.
Anyway, during this time my BIL and his new girlfriend stop by for a visit and he wants to go to the range - he had picked up a new .357 he wanted to try out. So we plan a trip, but let him know he should keep things a secret around his mom. Well, the whole thing falls apart as we are getting ready to go and so we 'let the cat out of the bag' and said we were going shooting and she said:
'Ohhh wow - target shooting - I always wanted to do that. My dad was crack shot - the best shot in town.' or something to that effect. My oldest daughter said my wife's expression was priceless as her jaw hit the floor. Everybody bust out laughing.
We wanted to take her to the range, but she was recovering from recent surgery and she wasn't quite sure if she could handle the trip. She was also concerned about the noise.

Well, the update is that she is back visiting us for Christmas (she lives in PA) and doing very well. So we just got back from PSC where she shot my Ruger Standard .22. She did very well she totally had a blast. I am so glad we able to take her. Here are a few pics. She was shooting from about 20 feet. She is 72 years old.

That is AWESOME!!! Congratulations! I'm glad she went and had a good time. She did very well, too!!!
By the way, where is your wife? I didn't see any pictures of her having a good time.

Maybe you could get your MIL to talk your wife into going now.terryg wrote:She had to work today ... and getting her to the range is still a work in progress ... lol. It will help - especially since when my wife got home work, her Mother wouldn't stop talking about how fun it was and showing her the target.strider67 wrote:Maybe you could get your MIL to talk your wife into going now.terryg wrote:She had to work today ... and getting her to the range is still a work in progress ... lol. My wife has already said she want's to go ... months ago in fact. But with both of us working and the kids very busy with volleyball and other activities - we don't have a lot of free time together. So whenever we do have a few free moments, there are dozens of other activities that have priority for her. But progress has still been made ...

Fabulous job...and turned out to be a great day weather-wise for the trip, too.terryg wrote:It will help - especially since when my wife got home work, her Mother wouldn't stop talking about how fun it was and showing her the target.
