new pistol question

Post by rwg3 »

Santa was good to me this year and left a new Sig P238 for me. With family obligations intruding I haven't had a chance to take it to the range until this week. I haven't acquired a new firearm since the mid 80's and this is the first new semi-automatic I have unwrapped. What should one do to prepare the pistol for it's first time out to the range? Historically I have always done a thorough cleaning and lubrication before trying it out. Is there more that can be recommended?

nope thats all you gotta do, take it apart, clean and lubricate. as the p238 is a 1911ish design i would go ahead and remove the firing pin and just clean that area up too. just make sure on reassembly you dont push down that ejector too far or else you'll have a hard time putting it back together. good luck and enjoy the gun, its a great shooter

Before shooting it the first time, nothing. These things aren't fragile ;-)

As for cleaning: Always follow the user's manual that came with the pistol.
