Springfield and STI have models that are at least partially made by Armscor in the Philippines. Others might as well.Seabear wrote:speedsix wrote:...yeah, and spend the rest of our lives explainin' "No, that don't mean Philadelphia...it's the Phillippines..." I don't THINK so...

Re: New 1911 Help
I don't know that there is a "best" 1911 as that is a very competitive market segment with a lot of players. I personally own Colts and Kimbers and both very good. For me personally, if money was no object, my dream 1911 is a Wilson Combat. Maybe one day....

For a sub $1500 1911, STI. Made in Texas, Lifetime warranty.
Otherwise, if you've got the cash, this. I would love to own an Wilson or Ed Brown.karder wrote:I don't know that there is a "best" 1911 as that is a very competitive market segment with a lot of players. ^ This, and I am a huge fan of Chuck Rogers and Bob Rodgers. I dealt with both last year and they are fantastic.AndyC wrote:Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, etc are all top-end pistols.
Another alternative is to look at the smaller custom shops as well - Bob Rodgers, Chuck Warner, Chuck Rogers, John Harrison, Ted Yost & Jason Burton, etc, etc...

Re: New 1911 Help
If it's your first 1911, get a "cheaper" one: Taurus, RIA, etc. Don't do what I did: bought my "dream" gun and put an idiot scratch on it second time I cleaned it.

Bob puts up pix of some of his work on the 1911 forums. True art. And I'd give my firstborn to go to his pistolsmithing class.gigag04 wrote:^ This, and I am a huge fan of Chuck Rogers and Bob Rodgers. Oh, wait, I don't have kids. Guess I'll have to save the nickles and dimes then.

+1 on the STI, especially if you want to go double stack. Even if you don't go STI I would strongly suggest series 70 and stay away from series 80 1911s.

Can you please give us reasoning why?

Re: New 1911 Help
series 80 has a secondary safety added into it, and 1) isn't the John Moses Browning design, and 2) adds complicationsRECIT wrote:jason237m wrote:+1 on the STI, especially if you want to go double stack. Even if you don't go STI I would strongly suggest series 70 and stay away from series 80 1911s.
