Pull the trigger while removing the slide.
No, I can't get the slide stop out. I've tried tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver as the manual suggests, and it absolutely will not budge. I am not even at the point of removing the slide.

Congrats on the new toy... I love my P40. My wife bought it for me for an anniversary present a couple of years ago. It's my EDC.

On removing the slide... There are a few videos on youtube showing make shift tools folks have made to make it easier. But you push the slide back (mine is about a half inch or so) and then tap out the retainer. Mine was difficult to do when new, but I think it gets easier as it breaks in. I don't use a tool for mine anymore.

Geez! I finally took the left grip off, fixed the slide in place with a packet of sticky notes, and pried out the slide stop with a screwdriver. Don't worry, I didn't damage anything. But man, it took a lot to get that sucker out! I hope it becomes easier like everyone says, because having to do this after every trip to the range is going to be a pain.

I was surprised to see how minimalistic the frame was...impressed, really, considering how solid it feels. I'm going to take it out again as soon as time (and money) allows. Maybe I'll even let my hubby try it this time. I'll tell him he can shoot it if he'll strip it for me, that way I don't have to deal with the take down! :leaving
