Ruger Service
Ruger Service
I was curious if anyone has done any service business with Ruger? The Mrs. has a 10/22 (pink) that doesn't load a round. I can't find anything about their warranty online. Guess I'll call them next week if all else fails. Thanks

Re: Rugepairs.er Service
The last I heard was that Ruger didn't post warranty info, they just take care of it. Give them a call to get a label and send it back for repairs.

Re: Ruger Service
Ruger has no official warranty. However they have a great unofficial warranty which is essentially "if it breaks due to something other than modification or stupidity it will get fixed."
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Re: Ruger Service
I never had an issue with a Ruger that needed their service. But I have a Mini-14 (180 series) from 1976 that parts are just not available for anymore. Ruger told me if anything breaks all they will do is sell me a new Mini at a discount. Not really what I expect from Ruger. 35 years is old but not really. Not for a rifle.
Re: Ruger Service
Realistically, do you expect their methods of production to remain unchanged for 35 years, much less the minute details of the gun? Overall design and function may have remained intact, but it wouldn't surprise me if they changed things up here and there every few years.

Re: Ruger Service
Ruger is also one of the better manufacturers in that their SOP is to email you a pre-paid UPS label to ship it back on their dime.

That is great service! Especially on their dime.

Re: Ruger Service
I do expect designs to change. I also expect Ruger to service 35 year old guns. I have other guns that old and older and parts are still available. One of my ARs is almost that old and I know for a fact Colt still will service it. Ruger sold a lot of Mini-14s in those early years and there is no reason for anyone to think a lot of them are not still out there being used. The pre 181 series Mini-14s were known to have some weak spots and that's why they were improved. That's also why Ruger should still make parts available. Throw your gun in the dumpster if some small part breaks is not an acceptable answer. Especially since it was a birthday gift from my wife , at a time we didn't really have the money to spend on things like guns.. It's like they are saying we know we sold you an inferior product so we will make it up to you by selling you a new one.

Re: Ruger Service
I had the same experience. I have one of the older mini 14s too. Mine has never broke but I never shoot it either. All I wanted to do was buy some spare parts for it to keep in the safe. Ruger pretty much told me tough luck. It wasnt recently that it happened. I think about fifteen years ago.
Re: Ruger Service
Can you get a replacement engine for a 1965 Mustang from Ford?
Re: Ruger Service
Yes, you can. I don't deal in Fords but you can get a crate motor for small block Chevys as far back as 1955. Bad comparison anyway. Cars don't usually last for hundreds of years. Firearms do. I don't still have any of the vehicles that I had in the 70s and wouldn't want them. The first Mini-14s had problems, the guy at Ruger admitted it. But what did they do about it? It's the only gun I own that I can't buy parts for. And a Ruger Mini-14 is not exactly an obscure relic.
Re: Ruger Service
Has anyone ever heard of Ruger not repairing any other older firearms, besides the older Mini-14s? Because I've heard of people sending in old Blackhawks, which have been around for a long time, and those got fixed. Maybe Ruger just doesn't have the spare parts, period. I'm not saying that is a good answer, but maybe its true. Can't fix what you don't have parts for...not properly anyway.
Re: Ruger Service
I sent off my brand new 22/45 Dec 7 a day after I bought it because it had a defect on the extraction port that caused the bolt to bind (Something that was missed during my inspection). I got it back Jan 17th. I wouldn't say it was the fastest of service (I'm guessing holidays and shot show were the reasons it was slow) but the CS department was really nice. The only thing I wish they would have done is grind out the defect on the extraction port a little more so it wasn't such an eyesore to me at least. Some people say Ruger usually puts in mags or other stuff in for your troubles, I didn't get anything. I would still buy Rugers without hesitating.

Re: Ruger Service
Thanks all. That's what I expected, but wanted to find out. I have several of their firearms and have never had any issues. I had only had a recall with them once on a 70's Blackhawk back in the 80's and they were great at that time.
