P220 Carry Suppressor Question

Hey all,

I am trying to suss out the potential for adding a suppressor to my p220 carry. I was thinking of getting a Silencer Co Osprey. Here are the details I have gathered.

There is no factory threaded p220 Carry barrel (I cant believe that is true but I haven't seen one)
A full size p220 barrel is .5" longer than the Carry barrel (4.4" fullsize v 3.9" Carry)
A full size threaded p220 barrel is even longer as it goes the original 4.4" before it gets to the threading

Does anyone have any info on threading a barrel for a suppressor? Is .5" enough extra length for the threading and a brief gap between the weapon and suppressor? Can a non threaded barred be threaded into a usable thread spec? I think running a full size threaded barrel will leave too much exposed between the weapon and the suppressor, and will be both unattractive and add more length onto an already long project.

Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Of course I wouldn't carry it with the suppressor on (Is that a suppressor in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?). I was sort of hoping to be able to carry it with the threaded barrel installed, but I think a full size threaded barrel will be ridiculous. It would extend so far out from the slide. Perhaps this is a discussion I should have with a gunsmith, but I wanted to see if anyone had any info on barrel threading and spacing needed for a suppressor.

Did you miss the part where he said no factory threade barrel available?

Why cant your machinist who is threading it take the longer barrel and cut it down to what you want? Is the barrel straight or tapered?
I have a homemade suppressor that screws up to the bushing on a GSG .22 1911 and it works fine. Butts up tight to the Walther P22 as well. You dont need a gap but you dont want it pressing on the slide either. You need to talk to a good machinist, measure how deep your suppressor needs the threads then have him chop and thread just right. You can get thread protectors from midway or brownells.

Thanks for the response, I was resigned to this thread disappearing into the mist without resolution.

I am going to take a longer barrel in to get threaded once I have the suppressor in hand. Upon further investigation I have found that a full size p220 has a .5" difference between its normal and extended threaded barrel. There is also a .5" difference between the full size and carry barrels. This means if a machinist threads the full size barrel without taking any off the length it should more or less be equivalent to the threaded barrel for the full size p220 (I hope that makes sense). I also looked at the threading specs for the Osprey (available at the Silencer Co. website) and determined there is still a little room for play if the threading needs to be set back a hair or something. I google'd this question before posting and found no meaningful info on the subject. Hopefully this will help anyone else out there looking to have a suppressed p220 carry or suppressed p220 compact.

This is obviously a few months off, but does anyone have any names they trust in the Central Texas area for threading a pistol barrel?

Exactly same issue here.

Waiting for the paperwork to clear on an AAC Ti-Rant .45 suppressor.

I have a P245 with the extended factory mags that would be great with the can.
But.....if P220 Carry barrels are scarce how about a threaded P245......ha, no way.

So,
If I had a P220 Carry I'd certainly think getting a standard P220 threaded barrel and having a machinist cut and thread it with the shoulder a mm or two from the slide face.

Dury's does threading and Dale Wise Guns has done a couple for me and did fine work.

Question:
Does the P245 take the P220 barrel???
I need to find someone with a P220 and see if it works.
The factory lists the P245 barrel as 99 mm. 3.90 inches.
Is the P220 carry just a renamed P245??
I'd love to mount a can on it when tha time (sooooo long) comes.

To settle my debate I asked the fellow behind the counter at the range I go to to see if a full size p220's (they had for rent) barrel would lock into my pistol. It did. I have a p220 compact, the same slide and frame as a carry model but the frame is trimmed down. the upper components are the same. I dont know if teh p245 has any different specs, but from looking at part interchangeability it is a good bet it is the same. I would suggest doing the same and seeing if a p220 barrel will lock up.

Ive also discovered that Storm Lake has started manufacturing for the p220 carry line, threaded or not. So in short, if the p220 barrel locks in, you can get what you need from Storm Lake.
