New at the 2012 SHOT Show...
German Sport Guns or GSG is importing a new STG 44 rifle chambered in .22 LR. This rifle is all metal with real wood furniture and seems to be super high quality. The STG 44 will be available this April for $599.
This looks interesting. Who would get one of these? Why or why not?
What are your thoughts?...

Re: Who wants this?...
It'd be awesome if it was chambered in 7.92x33 but I think ammo availability/cost would be a huge issue.
But itd still be a blast to have one in .22

Re: Who wants this?...
While I love the idea, I just wish it was in a larger caliber. I like my guns to be "functional", IE capable of more than plinking. A 10/22 will do the same with a different look but at 1/3rd of the cost.
Now, if they made it in 7.62x25 or even 5.7x28...
It's cool regardless, I just can't think of a good enough reason to buy one.

For $600? No.
Once the price drops by three bills like all the other GSG 22 rifles?
Maybe.

It will probably appeal to the same crowd as these guns. http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=51814" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

IF you have a FAL, there is a guy selling a conversion kit over at The Fal Files. I think it's about $450 (there are metric and imperial kits) which includes the replacement bolt carrier group, one mag, and a slip-in barrel liner. It's a 'group buy', so you have to get in on it while it's going on, though.
Cheers!
