Today on NPR Fresh Aire - wow devoted to the Glock

Hmmm. Something is changing.

This was an hour long show today on the Glock (it was a book review like they sometimes do) but it was really all about the Glock.

I sort of wanted to readjust the dial as I thought I was listening to a gun radio show on Saturday morning in the middle of Kansas. But it really was National Public Radio.

They talked about how crime rates have gone down even though gun ownership has gone up. They mentioned that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz was a Glock owner and carried for many years. They mentioned that she is still a strong supporter of gun rights. :patriot:

There was a discussion of the pros and cons of the lack of an external safety on the Glock.

The author wrote the book primarily from the business point of view and how a foreign manufacturer sold America on his gun.

Maybe if it was on the Diane Rehms show earlier it would have been treated more harshly, but it was really pretty even handed. Almost as if, the left crowd is suppose to now arm for the coming revolution, or they may have changed their minds about gun ownership. I'll put this here ;-) just in case I missed something important in the program.

I've been an NPR fan for years and it sounds like I missed a good show. I'll have to check it out on the web.

Uh oh. Now the word's out and the other half of the world will want a Glock. That's just going to drive the price up. :totap: :grumble

Communism is just socialism enforced with a gun, right?
We're on our way!

Seriously though... that is shocking to hear on NPR. The usual drivel that comes from those morons is mind-numbing. I'm glad to hear some common sense actually made it on the publicly funded (because no way it would survive otherwise) air waves.

That brought back a lot of memories about Glock in the early 90's. First time I ever saw one was in a CJ class I had in what had to be 1990. Our instructor was an Arlington cop. He pulled it out of his briefcase for about a half second and put it back in. He then asked the class to describe it and to tell who the maker was. Only one person in the class got it right and they admitted that it was only a guess.

The above link is the Dallas Morning Snooze's book review of the Glock book.

I was quite surprised to find the whole article since the DMN had gone to a "pay it to read it" format
some months ago. That was highly detrimental to posting links to articles I wanted to share with y'all.

Quoting the linked article:
The name Glock sounds so familiar in the context of guns that it seems it must have been around for centuries. Actually, Glock guns did not exist until 1982, when Austrian engineer Gaston Glock created them.

His design was deadlier and more convenient than other handguns on the market. As its marketing crossed the ocean, it became the gun of choice for police departments and civilian shooters across the United States.

This is why I don't read the DMN.

I'd forgotten about those charts. Looks like I have more AK's than I thought and fewer Glocks.
