Although Police are under no obligation to protect US citizens according to the Supreme Court the NJ legislation is further proof these controll freak law makers do not want us protecting ourselves. All under the pretense of protecting police.

It's a special term to help you identify the grossly ignorant.03Lightningrocks wrote:What the heck is a "dum dum bullet"?

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

LOL... I learn something new every day.
An expanding bullet is a bullet designed to expand on impact, increasing in diameter to limit penetration and/or produce a larger diameter wound. It is informally known as a Dum-dum or a dumdum bullet. The two typical designs are the hollow point bullet and the soft point bullet.

1) Bullets which are designed to not over penetrate
and now:
2) bullets which penetrate real well

To summarize a bit simpler........
They want to ban the most commonly used handgun ammunition (for self defense) in all calibers 'cept 22.......(been awhile since i've seen a .22 hollow point "Dum-Dum") - NEVER.
Additionally, they want to ban most all rifle ammunition.

Re: It begins....again...NJ ammunition ban......
What they really want to ban is any opportunity for a law-abiding citizen to use a firearm for self protection. It is fine that the thugs and gang members in Newark, Camden etc. have guns. Their excuse for not prosecuting them is that there isn't sufficient jail space - no joke. Somehow, they find the room in cells for those without criminal intent who break any of these restrictive gun laws.
There is really no difference between the intent in D.C. and the intent in NJ. The tactics are just different. I'm sure glad that we don't live in NJ any more.

We used them when I was a kid to hunt squirrels. You got me to thinking I had not seen them in forever. I found a picture of some on GOOGLE. So I imagine they would be outlawed as well.AEA wrote:To summarize a bit simpler........

Thanks!
Now that I see one, I remember them too. Have not used them in a very long time (but I was never much of a .22 shooter anyway).

Your welcome. My memory was vague on it, so I had to look them up to be sure. It was a Kentucky squirrel humting thing. I use to love squirrel and then somebody esplained to me it was a tree rat! Ruined my appetite for the little critters!AEA wrote:Thanks!![]()

Can't find the reference, but I've heard that NJ also has legislation pending to prohibit "altering" a gun --such as adding different than the original sights.

.22 LR hollowpoints? No big deal, I have literally HUNDREDS of them (oooh, scary to NJ politicians, no doubt) in my gun cabinet...they really don't cost any more than the solids do...the hollow cavity makes them about 4 grains lighter than the solids (36 vs 40). MAYBE they mash out a little more than solids, maybe not...depends on what they hit. Just adding my 2 cents worth.03Lightningrocks wrote:We used them when I was a kid to hunt squirrels. Re: It begins....again...NJ ammunition ban......
Since the anti-gun movement can't get the traction to outlaw civilian ownership of guns, especially since Heller and McDonald, they are going after ammunition. That was predictable. Without ammo, our guns are nothing but funny-shaped clubs. Also, if Obama wins in November, expect him to get to replace one or more of the 5-member majority in Heller and McDonald with anti-gun justices like Sotomeyer. If that happens, both Heller and McDonald will be reversed at the first opportunity, and our gun rights will go down the drain. Count on it.
